この長い歴史を誇るアメリカのバンドは、カンザスが原音に近い発音なのになぜか日本名がカンサスとなってしまったが、それは脇に置いて、じつに力の籠もったいい演奏をしてくれる。２００１年の日本公演を地方都市の小さなホールで見たが、「こんなに小さな所だとは思わなかった」と言いながら熱い演奏をしてくれたのを思い出す。

ここに収録されている公演は、このＤＶＤのために特別に誂えたもので、コーラス隊やストリングス・カルテットをゲストに招き、観客にはコアなファンを中心に呼びよせるという力の入れようだ。だからイントロから始まって、最後の「伝承」まで、ベスト的な選曲でガツンと迫ってくる。多くの名曲を書いたケリー・リヴグレンがいないのがいささか寂しいが、それを補って余りある演奏だ。私の見た公演では、リチャード・ウイリアムズがギターを台に置いて演奏していたのに驚いたが、ここではちゃんと肩に掛けているし（笑）。音声はドルビー・デジタル5.1ch。全盛期の演奏も良いが、この円熟期のパフォーマンスもそれにまったくひけをとらない。
