購入して聴いてから、半年はまりました。力強さとアレンジの凄さにやられました。これ、レトロの皮かぶった最新型音楽です。
一言、「食わず嫌いは損をする！」。横山剣のいかがわしいルックスに引いてしまうそこの貴方、まず「横須賀マンボ」を聴いてから嫌いになってください。多分嫌いになれません。かの森光子が横山剣氏のファンという噂ですが、

昭和、平成ガールの諸君、明治生まれに先物買いの先を越されちゃあいけないよ。

いずれ劣らぬ昭和の住人達、クセモノぞろいでコッテリ楽しめる事請け負います。よくもまあ、と思わせる凝った選曲。選者は只者じゃないんでしょう。で、どれが一番良かったかと云うと断然野坂さん！というくらいヨコスカマンボ圧巻です。これを最初に聞かされしまうと後に控える曲者達もかすんでしまうので最後に持ってくるべきでした。テレビでさかんに唄ってた頃はうまいのかへたなのかようわからん人でしたが、この人はうまい、という事が判ります。「マンボヨコスカ、ヨコサヌカッ」のフレーズは傑作ですが、ロレツが怪しくて語尾が良く聞き取れない。ひょっとして「マン●ヨコスカ、ヨコサヌカッ？」って歌ってるんじゃないのか？ノサカならやりかねないと思って聴き進むと、最後にああっやっぱりという展開になって、慌てたヨコヤマさんが早々に退場させてしまうクダリが何度聞いても笑えます。ヨコヤマさんの人柄もうかがえてこのライブは出色です。大西さんもスタジオとライブの差が別人のようになるらしく、「俺と彼女」のウマさはピンキーを超えてしびれさせます。
