1959年アート・ブレイキーがシネ・ジャズに取り組んだサウンド・トラック盤。当時人気絶頂のジェラール・フィリップ演じるデカダンス的雰囲気を持ったヌーベル・バーグ映画｢危険な関係」(1960）の中で、何度も耳にしたメロディーだ。フランス映画がこれほどモダン・ジャズと相性がいいとは誰もが思わなかったであろう。これに先立つ、マイルス・デイビスの「死刑台のエレベーター」でも、パリのしゃれた粋な雰囲気の中で、モダン・ジャズがゾクっとするほど似合っていた。映像の中では、確かブレイキーやリー・モーガンは登場せずアテレコ的にケニー・ドーハムらが登場し、演奏の映像と音楽が扱われやや興ざめだったが、レイジーな雰囲気の標題曲をはじめ、モダン・ジャズの粋を感じさせるスリリングな演奏である。危険な関係のブルース、危険な関係のサンバ、プレリュード・イン・ブルーなど哀愁を帯びた楽想は映画ファン層にモダン・ジャズを浸透させる貢献を大いに果たしたものと思われる。御大ブレイキー、さらにモーガンやティモンズのいつもながらのソウルフルなプレイは見事だが、ここでは当時弱冠22歳のバルネ・ヴィランのテナー・サックスも健闘していて、傑作の誕生に一役買っている。ヴィランは｢死刑台のエレベーター」でもマイルスと競演し、当時のパリの若手のエースだった。スタン・ゲッツ的なメロディアスなフレーズで粋に吹きまくる彼の存在は、シネ・ジャズのもう一つの華でもあったといえよう。
