   北海道の田舎町、高校生男女シュウジとちせの、まだ始まったばかりの恋愛ドラマとして物語は幕を開ける。登校中に自衛隊員を乗せたトラックとすれ違ったり、屋上で空を見上げると戦闘機が編隊を組んで飛んでいたりといった不穏な空気も漂うが、そんなこととは関係なく、「つきあう」ってどういうこと？という疑問を持ちつつも2人の仲は徐々に近づきつつある毎日。
   だが、ある日シュウジは男友達と連れだって行った札幌で、突如空襲に巻き込まれる。激しい戦闘機同士のぶつかり合いの中、廃墟と化していく瓦礫（がれき）の山でシュウジが見たものは、身体から直に武器と羽根を生やした彼女、ちせだった。そのサブタイトルが主人公2人の決意すべてを表している第1話「ぼくたちは、恋していく」を収録。高橋しん原作の人気作品の待望のアニメ化作品。（田中 元）

原作で特徴だった実写的な演出は、アニメになってより効果的になっていて。
キャラクターも含め、作画全体がとても丁寧だし、物語の内容がとても伝わってきて、とても感動する作品です。

ちせとシュウジの二人が、守れるものはお互いだったと考えていたのに
戦争と言う途轍もない残酷さは、一緒にいることすら許してくれなかった。
ちせは普通の女の子で、普通に好きな人がいて、普通に家族と仲良しであることもできない。
自分はこれを見て、「ああ、感動的だなぁ」とか「私もこんな恋したいなぁ」とも
思う暇もなく泣いてしまいました。。。（恥
みんなが話す言葉、ひとつひとつに人を想うのが感じられました。
他のＤＶＤ巻なのですが、戦争で自分が戦うのが当たり前になってしまったちせが
物凄く見ていてつらかったです。
人々は武器を作り、愛し合っていた二人を引き離した。それが世界の為だと分かっていても
愛する人といるだけが最高の幸せだと考えてしまうのだ。

私は小さい頃から冷たい人間だ、と言われ続けていました。
私も自身でそう思っていました。（事実だったので。。。
たかがアニメと知っていても、私はこんなに涙を流すのが初めてでした。

アニメでどう変わるのか期待(半分以上不安でしたが)してみましたが、マンガの雰囲気そのまんまである意味ほっとしました。(キャラクタも平面的だし。) やや動きとかマンガマンガしすぎた感もありますが、十分楽しめました。逆に、背景は実際の小樽をしっかり捉えているようで、良く雰囲気が出ています。いずれにせよかなりきれいです。

ストーリーはマンガと全然変わっていないみたいなので、原作の雰囲気を楽しみたい人にはうってつけでしょう。北海道弁もしっかりでてます。ちなみに、今回の通常版は1話と声優さんのトークのみでちょっとボリューム的には少なめです。
