   『2001年宇宙の旅』に対するロシアの答えが本作品であり、同様に記憶に残る傑作映画である。ロシアの伝説的映画監督、アンドレイ・タルコフスキーがスタニスラフ・レフの小説『ソラリスの陽のもとに』を映画化し、綿密に練られたSF大作に仕上げている。ストーリーは宇宙飛行士（ドナタス・バニオニス）による惑星への不気味な航海に沿って展開されるが、その惑星では人間の潜在意識が実体化して現われる。あらすじのみを聞くとありきたりの宇宙探検物のような印象を与えるが（『トワイライト・ゾーン』のエピソードを引き延ばしただけのような）、神秘の旅を続けるうちに未知の世界に引き込まれていく。タルコフスキー監督の意図や手法には理解を超える点も多いが、『惑星ソラリス』は、とりわけスローテンポで先が読めない展開により観る人の頭の中にじわじわと入り込んでくる。ラストシーンが訪れるまでに、従来のSF映画をはるかに超越した感動的で奇異な記憶や故郷に対する幻想が描き出される。カルト的要素を十分含んだこの映画は、意欲的なアートシアター系作品であると同時に、狂気を帯びた幻想の旅の記録でもある。（Robert Horton, Amazon.com）

他の方がおっしゃる通り正に手抜きとしか言い様がありません。この値段でこの内容では本当に不愉快です。特典映像の日本語字幕はないし、ジャケや背表紙なんかの売り文句も安っぽくて素晴らしい映画の内容をぶち壊しにしてます。あと私が買ったのなんて輸入盤だからか知らないが新品なのにディスクに傷が付いている始末。ブートじゃあるまいし日本で出すならそのくらいしっかりしろや!素晴らしい映画なのに国内盤がこんな物しか出回っていないのが残念でなりません。

輸入盤に日本語のカバーをつけただけです。
ボーナス・マテリアルには日本語字幕ありません。
字幕を付けられないのなら解説書などを封入するべきだと思います。
他の業者で再発してくれないかしら。

日本語字幕の不具合やその修正版の動作不良など、一連の問題からはやっと解放されたものの、本編が２枚に分かれて収録されている点（もっとも作品自体二部構成なのだが）や、メニュー画面の操作性の悪さなど、商品に対する不満は残る。しかし、最も残念な点は、オリジナルのはずのロシア語音声が、5.1chにリミックスする際、鳥のさえずりや雷、高速道路など、効果音が著しく差し替えられている点である。これを果たして復元と呼べるのであろうか。またジャケットの背タイトルのデザインが作品のイメージとかけ離れている点も、作品が作品なだけに非常に残念である。
