   本作はエルトン・ジョン卿の3レーベルに及ぶヒット曲のすべてを初めて1つのアルバムに収めている。以前なら本作に収録したヒット曲を収めるにはCD4枚が必要だったろう。多くの人はこの伝説的なパフォーマーの最盛期は1970年代の初めから中ごろまでだと考え、1970年の「Your Song」から 1977年の「Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word」にわたる一連の名曲に強い印象が残っているだろう。けれども今こうして振り返ってみると、「I'm Still Standing」や「Sad Songs」といった 80年代のヒット曲の多くが、それ以前の驚異の名曲群の仲間入りをしていることに気づく。ディズニー映画で用いられた3曲、みずみずしい「The One」と『Songs from the West Coast』収録の2曲は、70年代の黄金時代の再来と賞賛された。本作を通して聴けば、マイケル・ジャクソンがのちに宣言したものの、ジョンがかつて60年代後の音楽におけるポップスの王様の地位に一番近い位置にいて、流行に敏感な者からも一般大衆からも等しく敬意を集めていたことが強く感じられる。（Bill Holdship ,Amazon.com）

こちらのCD、今から買う人は注意ですよ。（Bonus Disc）って記載はありますけど、もう今から届くCDにはつかないと思います。それでも34曲は結構なボリュームですけどね。でも、ボーナスディスクは欲しかったな…。実際、僕の買ってやつにはついてなかったので、念のため。

毎年恒例のエルトンのニューアルバムが発売されました。新録音版ではなくベスト物です。長年のファンの方には物足りないか
もしれませんが（近年ダイアナ元王妃の葬儀時にエルトンのCandle In Wind 1997を聞かれた方、９４年にライオン・キングを見た時に流れた主題歌
「愛を感じて」を聞かれた方で、その後にエルトンの音楽に触れられる機会が
なかった方にはぜひこのベストアルバムを買って頂き、それ以前（勿論それ
以降もですよ）のエルトンの音楽史にふれて頂きたい。３２年以上のキャリアを持ち、なお且つ現役のアーティストはそういませんよ！

ベストとかコレクションには、殆ど「ハズレ」というのがない。それだけ素晴らしい曲を書き続けているということなのか、やはり彼の才能には脱帽する。このベストはデビュー時から今まで(2002年に日本ツアーに来た時に歌われたものなど)も入っているから、ファンならぜひ欲しいベストだと思う。選曲も悪くない。色んなエルトンが聞けると思う。ディスク1は６０~７０年代、ディスク2は８０~９０年代のエルトンで、どれもとても違う。どの時代の曲も好きな私にとっては諸手を上げて喜んでしまうCDだ。ただ、こういうベストになると、音源はどうなってるのかが気になる。リマスターされているのかとか、書いてくれると助かるのだが…
