   ボブ・ディランは長く紆余曲折に満ちたキャリアを送ってきた。そのなかの数多くの奇妙な出来事のひとつに、彼が首謀者として引っ張ったローリング・サンダー・レビュー・ツアーのかなりおざなりなレコーディング作品があった。だが、その欠点が本作のリリースによって修正されることになった。2枚組の本作の前にも、このごった煮的なツアーの様子は稀少な映像作品であるディランが監督した映画『レナルド＆クララ』や、断片的で単調な1976年のライヴ盤『Hard Rain』に記録されていた。

   そうした以前の作品とは対照的に、本作は75年11月と12月に行われた4回の公演から選りすぐり、ディランのとどろく雷鳴のごときパフォーマンスのスケール感と細やかさをしっかりとらえている。『Nashville Skyline』収録の以前はカントリー調だった「Tonight I'll Be Staying Here with You」は、本作ではうって変わっている。また、「It Ain't Me Babe」を明るく彩っているのは多楽器奏者デビッド・マンスフィールドと、この急ごしらえの愉快な寄せ集めバンドの推進役でありデヴィッド・ボウイのバンドの元ギタリストだったミック・ロンソンである。

   そして、騒々しいフルバンド編成での古いナンバー（「The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll」）や新しいナンバー（76年初めになって発表された『Desire』収録の「Hurricane」を含む5曲）の演奏のあいだに、アコースティック・ソロが組みこまれている。ツアーに多くのバンドのメンバーやゲストが参加するなか、ジョーン・バエズは特筆に価するめずらしい「Mama, You Been On My Mind」やトラディショナルソングの「The Water is Wide」など4曲に参加し、ディランとスポットライトをわけあっている。けれども、どんなに多彩なゲストが登場しようとも本作はディランのショーであり、70年代のディランがどのようにして自身の60年代の絶頂期に区切りをつけたのかを示している。（Steven Stolder ,Amazon.com）

今までスタジオ盤しか聴いたことがありませんでした。
「そうか、ファンの人が愛しているBob Dylanは、これだったのか」
と思わせる一枚です。
ブートレグシリーズはいくつかありますが、
これを最初にお薦めいたします。

すごすぎる。あまりにすごすぎて、３曲目以降に進めない。１曲目の「今宵はきみと」と２曲目の「悲しきベイブ」に圧倒されてそのあとが聴けないのだ。

「今宵はきみと」は、あの『ナッシュヴィル・スカイライン』とほんとに同じ曲かと思うくらい思い切ったアレンジで、『ハードレイン』の「いつもの朝に」のすさまじさを思い出してしまった。かつて、プレイボーイ風の猫なで声で「いいじゃん、今夜は一緒にいようよー」とうたっていたのが、ここでは無頼派パンク野郎が「おまえはすべてを捨てて、今夜おれと一緒にすごすんだー」と叫んでいるようだ。疾走感がたまらなくいい。
「悲しきベイブ」はなんといっても、エンディングの（ミック・ロンソンの？）ギターに続いて、ディランがハーモニカを吹きまくるところ。その瞬間、鳥肌が立って歓喜の涙が溢れてしまう。この同じテイクが前に出た『LIVE! 1961-2000』にも入っていたんだけど、ミキシングがまるで違っていて、そのときは何ともなかったんだよね。ミキシング恐るべしともいえるわけだけど、そんなことはともかく、これは映画「アポロ13」でオデッセイが大気圏に入ってくるところ、トム・ハンクスの「 ハロー、ヒューストン。ディス・イズ・オデッセイ」という言葉が聞こえてきたときと同じくらい、何度聴いても感動する。
３曲目以降はいずれ落ち着いて聴こうと思ってるんだけど、いつになるやら。
いつも思うことだけど、ディランって、すごい。すごすぎる。

これは素晴らしい発掘音源である。おまけにリージョン･フリーのDVDまでついている(収録時間は短いし，"ISIS"はオーディオのみだが．．．）。往時のライブ盤，"Hard Rain"も強烈なアルバムであったが，これほどパワーに満ちたDylanはそう聞けるものではない。アコースティック･セットを挟みながら，全体的にダイナミックな演奏が展開されており，選曲共に文句のつけようがない。ゲストではジョーン･バエズがDisc1後半で素晴らしい歌を聞かせ，"Knockin' on Heaven's Door"にはロジャー・マッギンまで登場である。70年代のDylanを回顧する上で，不可欠になることは確実なアルバムである｡これぞ"Must Buy"である。
