なんでも前作を出してフジロックに出演した後失踪していたそうな・・・精神的に大丈夫なんでしょうか・・・

本作は基本的には前作の流れの延長上にあると言っていいのでしょうが、曲作りに全面的にパソコンを導入したそうで、妙にカッチリとした音作りになっています。曲はいじったヴォーカルモノあり、高速ドラムンあり、トム的な意味でメロディアスな曲あり、実験的な曲あり、そしてjoy divisionのカヴァーあり（歌ってるのトム本人？）といったかんじ。
私は初期とmusic is rotten to one noteが好きで、前作は楽しめなかったし本作も好きじゃない。前作以上に隙間なく配列された音が息苦しく感じてしまうのです。もはやベースは弾く気ないのでしょうか・・・多分今の方向性はノイズを自由に扱うというところにあるのでしょうが、生な感覚が著しく欠けているせいかスリルに欠けるように思うのです。

そういう意味ではディスク２のフジロックでのライブの方が数段面白いと思います。こっちは音質に難がある（低音が入っていない）のですが、ずっとスリルあるノイズの洪水が楽しめます。このライブ実際見たのですが、トムさんは異常なハイテンションで本当にやばかったです。ディスク２がなければ星は３か２でした。

個人的にはDISC２のほうが気に入っている。ライブ音源でスクエアプッシャーと観客が一体となってすばらしく思う。気分が高揚する一枚です。

Squarepusherを初めて知ったのは「Go! Spastic」でした。「狂っている」としか思えないドリルンベース。音・曲の構成に初め圧倒され、聞き込むうちにハマっていった。Squarepusher(トム・ジェンキンソン)はジャズを聴いて育ったらしい。圧倒的な破壊性の根底に「ジャズ」はたしかに流れていて、それが聞き込むに従い曲に深みを感じさせていくのだ。

Squarepusherは今回の二枚組新作でどんな音を聴かせてくれるのでしょうか。今から楽しみです。
