オースティン・パワーズのシリーズがジェームズ・ボンドをちゃかした最初の映画というわけではまったくない。1960年代、ボンド熱が最高潮に達したころ、この「カジノ・ロワイヤル」というまとまりのない、大型予算のパロディ映画が、人気俳優が勢ぞろいし、ボンドとボンドが決闘し、それにバート・バカラックによる音楽上の陽気なお遊びもあって、すでに成功を収めていたのである。実際、このキッチュな60年代ポップスのスイングする部分は、のちにマイク・マイヤーズ自身がパワーズで示した音楽性の多くに影響を与えたようである。ハーブ・アルパートとティファナ・ブラスによる軽快なメイン・テーマと、バカラックの不朽の名曲「恋の面影」を見事に歌い上げるダスティ・スプリングフィールドのブラジル・ジャズ風の声の抑揚によってしっかりつなぎとめられた「カジノ・ロワイヤル」の音楽は、陽気に飛び跳ねる。大きな音を出すオーケストラは派手な演奏をし、バカラック風に味付けされたジャズ=ポップスが取り入れられ、ヴォードヴィルから国際的な「威風堂々」まであらゆる音楽がパロディ化されている。最初の曲から最後まで楽しさがいっぱいで、目が回るほど人をうきうきさせてくれる。(Jerry McCulley, Amazon.com)
