   梶原一騎と井上コオの原作をもとに、1973年から1年間放映された野球アニメ。前半の第1話~23話を収録。
   読売ジャイアンツ人気が絶頂にある中、しかし当時の監督川上は巨人軍の将来が気がかり。そつなくこなす実力選手は多数いるが、天才的かつ動物的カンといわれる野性味を兼ね備えた選手、長島の後を継ぐことのできる、いわば侍の血を持った選手は現れていなかったからだ。だが、それにかなう選手が高校球界に見つかる。それこそが本作の主人公、番場蛮、あらゆる野球の常識を覆す破天荒な男であった。演出に長浜忠夫、作画監督に大塚康生、原画に宮崎駿といった豪華スタッフが、「巨人の星」以上に漫画ならではのデタラメさにあふれた作品を作り上げている。（田中 元）

ホント！待ちにまったこの発売！！嬉しいです。巨人が長嶋さんと王さんで支えられ川上監督のもと不動の地位を築き上げていた時のよき時代の王者ジャイアンツ。例え今、また不動の王者ジャイアンツに返り咲いても現代版侍ジャイアンツをリメイクしてほしくありません。私はこの時代のこの侍ジャイアンツに惚れてます｡よくDVDになって戻ってくれました。うれしいです。蛮ちゃんの男気、大好きでした。声優さんの富山敬さんは亡くなられたと聞きました｡良くぞ蛮ちゃんの声をしてくれたと感謝しています。

愉快ですね
巨人・大鵬・卵焼き
巨人が強かったころのアニメです
巨人の星のパロディーのようですが良く出来ています
このDVDではハイジャンプ魔球が登場します
野球のルールによればボークですがアイデアは秀逸です
難波金融道で有名になった青木雄三さんの名前が見えます
このころはAプロで働いていたようです

　待ってましたよ、我らが蛮ちゃん！
　梶原一騎先生が禁欲的な「巨人の星」から一転、ネアカな路線で弾けた傑作。
　まず時代がいい。昭和４８年ペナントレース開幕！　と来た日にゃ涙ちょちょぎれちゃうよ。V9を狙う巨人は絶対的に強いし。

　次に友情がいい。蛮が巨人に入団するきっかけをつくり最後までサポートに徹する先輩、八幡太郎平の挫折と苦悩の描き方が大げさだが泣かせる。

　最後になんといっても魔球がいい。このシリーズでは最初のものしか登場しないが、魔球を生み出すためのヒントや練習、そしてそれを打つためのライバルの特訓が「よくもまあ考えたな」と呆れを超えて感心させる。

　次のBOX2を大いに期待させる充実した内容。言うことな~し！！
