   ロンドンをベースに活動するハンサムな少年ポップ・バンド、バステッド（チャーリーとジェームズとマティの3人は、われわれの反抗的な娘たちがつきあいそうな男の子たちだ）。バステッドは、悪賢い仕掛け人たちが音楽業界はブリンク182のやわらかく控え目なヴァージョンを求めていると見て企んだバンドにも思える。

   心配性の mum たち（アメリカ人には mom（母親）と言えばわかりやすいだろう。なんと言っても、バステッドの住む大西洋の向こう側の十代の世界では、car boot とは trunk（トランク）のことで、arses とは ass（尻）のことで、ボーイフレンドを chuck するのではなく dis（軽蔑）するのだから）は、バステッドの歌詞が、おならをすることやふしだらな関係について触れていないことに、いくらか胸をなでおろすかもしれない。けれども、のぞき見の告白であるヒットシングル「What I Go to School For」や、（「君を心の底から満足させてあげる」と歌う）ブリトニーへのセクシーなファンタジー「Britney」では、ベッドの下に隠すポルノ雑誌的な話題を今のところは歌わずにはいれらないことをうかがわせる。

   中途半端な不良っぽいイメージと分裂症気味の歌詞は別として、本作から聴こえてくるのは、若者3人のたしかな才能とメロディーセンス（彼らは自ら曲を作る）とイギリス的なかたくなな生意気さと、怒れる（もしかすると、やや不機嫌な程度の）ギターだ。そして、十代の日々における不幸（「ディスコで踊らないかと君を誘った…でも断られた」）も陽気でわかりやすい方法で理解させてくれる。できればセンチメンタルすぎるバラードは捨ててもらいたいところだし、彼らならそれができるはずだ。（Kevin Maidment, Amazon.co.uk）

英の男の子３人組、Bustedのデビューアルバム。彼らは２００２年の下半期の半分が終わったころ現れ、英のチャートを盛り上げました。（英では）今ではツアーの追加公演が決まるほどの人気者になっています。

アルバムには、あの有名なNOWシリーズにも収められているヒット曲、「What I Go To School For」、「Year3000」も入っています。

例えば、彼らの歌をBSBや'NSYNCが歌っても、（こんな俗語がある歌は歌わないと思うけど）ピンとこないし、何か変な感じ・・。若者言葉がしき詰まった、シンプルで分かりやすい歌を10代の彼らが歌うから良いんだと、私個人的には思います。１０代の頃のジレンマの歌だとメンバーも言っているように、全体的に別れや失恋や悩みの歌が多い。でも、ユーモアやジョークの利いた歌が合間合間に入っていて笑わせてくれます。

私の一番のお勧めは、チャーリーの理想の人であるブリトニー・スピアーズについて歌った「britney」。歌詞が一番簡単で単純なのは、西暦３０００年の理想図を書いた「year 3000」。歌詞が一番おもしろいのは、海外ドラマのドーソンズ・クリークマニアを歌った「dawson s geek」。メロデイが一番良いのは、バラード系の「losing you」「all the way」。隠れた名作は、「what i go to scool for」の先生とのその後を描いた「loser kid」です。あくまでも私の中での一番の曲を書きましたが、ちょっとでも参考になれば・・と思います。

＃１はマット、＃２・３・１２はチャーリー、＃６はジェイムス、＃５は３人全員・・のように、誰か１人だけではなく、３人皆の体験談や想いがそれぞれの曲に収められているので、それも聞き所の１つでしょう。１stアルバムならではの、新鮮さや初々しさが感じられ、聞いてて本当に飽きませんでした。でも、歌詞がない曲があるので、あと少し待って、日本版のアルバムを買った方が良いかも・・・。
