~Deutsche Grammophonからのmusic of our timeシリーズの1枚。60年代の英国前衛シーンで頭角を現したコーネリアス・カーデューとデヴィッド・ベッドフォードの二人の作品のカップリング。
カーデューの"The Great Learning"は四書の『大学』がテキスト。演奏はプロと素人の混合部隊でカーデュー自身が結成・指揮するスクラッチ・オーケストラ。共に約20分程のParagraph 2とParagraph~~ 7を収録。Paragraph 2はドラムと声による演奏。図形楽譜的なスコアによる、殆ど即興的な演奏で、ほぼ全編に亘って暴力的なカオス状態が延々と続くが、最後の部分のみ、声が止み、ドラムが一定のリズムを刻む。一転してParagraph 7は声のみによる瞑想的な作品でかなり複雑なコードを作り出しているが、徐々にシンプルなコードに移行していく。

一方のベッドフォードは突飛な作品が多いが、ここに収められた"Two~~ Poems"は一定の音列に基づいた純粋な合唱曲。テキストはベッドフォードお気に入りのアメリカの詩人ケネス・パッチェンの甘美な恋愛詩を用いているが、テキストの内容とは裏腹に、キーワードだけを抜き出して同時に異なるスピードで歌わせたりと、かなりゲーム／遊び的要素が強い。ヘルムート・フランツ指揮、北ドイツ放送合唱団（ハンブルク）の演奏。~
