いつの時代も衝動に満ちた音楽はヒトの衝動にも火をつけるわけで、{モーサム}もそんなバンドのひとつ。約1年ぶりの新作アルバムも、パンクやオルタナなどの衝動が詰まったダイナミックな1枚に。


内容 (「CDジャーナル・レビュー」より)

いきなり暴発するような危険な匂いを感じさせる、97年に福岡で結成された3ピース・バンド。フル・アルバムとしては3作目。個人的には彼らのインディーズ・ラスト作品となったミニ・アルバム『echo』(01年)で衝撃を受けたクチだが、当時と同様の破天荒さは新作にも当然引き継がれている。好き嫌いが明確に分かれるであろうモーサムのロックの根底に流れているのは、無意識的にも初期衝動をそのまま詰め込もうとするスタンスだ。ただし、今回はまた新たなインパクトを与えており、先行シングル「見知らぬところ」で聴かれたような、どちらかと言えばソフトな側面を含めて堪能させる楽曲を始めとして、より整合感のあるアンサンブルが感じ取れる。表現手法のベクトル変化なのかもしれないが、それでいながら、やはり突然ブチ切れそうな妖しさは変わらずに内包している。パンクであれガレージであれ、先入観なしに聴いてほしい。個性派の個性派たる所以、そして真の姿を知る一枚だ。 (土屋京輔) --- 2002年11月号

ビートとへヴィネス、それとノイズを押し出した作品です。ライヴでの評判が高いバンドだけに、グルーヴやテンションは折り紙付き。なんてゆうか、スケールが大きくなったなと。詩は相変わらず自己ありきですが、音の範囲が大きくなったというか。

趣味感覚で演奏してます的な音から、ある程度広いライヴハウスでプロとして楽しませる音、みたいな。(上手く言えません)まぁ、この１、２年で日本の比較的健全な方のアンダーグラウンドロックシーンを担う一翼になったのですから当然の変化だと。『HELLO』でもその傾向は見られましたが、一方でアマチュア感覚が抜けてなかったのも事実。雰囲気的に重くなったのは、おそらくノイズの扱いが上手くなったから。
前作『HELLO』からかなりの進歩がみられます。

個人的には、現時点でのモーサムの最高傑作で、2002年のベストロックアルバムにも数えたい作品。

　今回のアルバムは、以前に比べてグランジ→オルタナ色が強くなっている。以前存在していたシアトルバンドと同じ経緯を辿ろうとしているのか？それにしても、「凡人のロックンロール」､「モダンラヴァーズ・ボレロ」はすばらしい。穏やかな陽気が突然の雷雨になるかのように静かに始まり突然、轟音となる。このような変調ぶりからも、何故か某シアトルバンドを思い出させてしまう。

前半の赤く激しく燃える炎のようなスピードと破壊力、後半の青白く静かに燃える炎のような内に秘められた情熱。この2つのコントラストがいい。ただ強いて言えば後半(11曲目あたり)にもう一度勢いをつけるような曲を入れてほしかった。個人的にはシングルは中途半端にキャッチーで好きじゃない。
