彼等にとって初めての全曲オリジナル･アルバムだが,全然無理をしている所がなく,チャーリーが当時語っていた「今回の新録音は全てミックとキースが書いた中での最高傑作揃いだ｡｣と言う言葉に納得するものである｡勿論,当時の二人のオリジナルなんて曲数が未だ少なかったのですが,でも初期のように無理にブルーズ･フィーリングを作ろうとしたりしている所がなく,むしろフォーク･ロックの時代に合わせたポップを作り出している感じがする｡
彼等自身もこのアルバムでは,自分達をはっきりと黒人音楽が大好きな白人ロックバンドであると認識したのだと思う｡だから,以降のサイケ時代に少し迷走も見られるが,これこそが彼等の本質にあった白人ロック魂(チト大袈裟か？)を惜しみなく出せた録音ではなかったろうか？

私は中学時代にこのアルバムから彼等のLPを買い始めた｡だから,余計に思い入れは特別なのだろう｡でも,この感覚は余波ではなく,今でも現役なのである｡

　英国版と米国版で曲が違うのですよ。しかし個人的にはこちらのほうがスキ。一曲目が「マザーズ・リトル・ヘルパー」。「ペイント　イット　ブラック」ではございません。

　「サティスファクション」や「ブラウンシュガー」しか聴いたことのない人だと、このアルバムはつらいかな？一回聴いただけではシングルヒット用のキャッチーな曲がひとつもないと感じるのでは？ただ聞き込むと、彼らのR&Bの捉え方が如実に出ているのに気づくはずです。「ハイ・アンド・ドライ」のブルースハープとミックジャガーの粘つくヴォーカルなど、まさにそんなことが感じられます。
「レット・イット・ブリード」や「スティキー・フィンガー」で彼らにやられた人には、オススメの一枚。
