 『パトレイバー』など数々のアニメーションに、主にメカデザインとして参加してきた出渕裕が監督として取り組み、ロボットアニメの新しいスタンダードに挑んだ作品。
   おそらくは近未来の東京、高校生の神名綾人が乗っていた地下鉄が大きな振動により脱線。助けを求め外へ出ると、地上は戦争状態にあり、巨大な人型兵器が戦闘を繰り広げていた。逃げた先で出会った少女、美嶋玲香に、綾人は神殿へと導かれる。そこには巨大な卵があった。真実を見せると綾人を連れ出す謎の女性・紫東遙、青い血を流す人々、そして綾人と同調して動き出すラーゼフォン。ここではまだすべて謎につつまれたままだが、その圧倒的スケールの世界観を感じさせるに充分なプロローグが展開する。（田中　元）

私は、劇場版を見た後からこの作品を見始めました。始めは意味が少し取りづらいかもしれませんが、ＤＶＤにほんの少しですがガイドが載っていますのでこれを読んだ後で見れば意味がとりやすくなると思います。とにかく、グラフィック・サウンド等がものすごくすごいです。もちろんストーリーもいいです。皆さんも見て下さい！！

6巻収録の「子供たちの夜」。ラーゼフォンの中でベストなエピソードとしてお勧めします。演出の磯光雄さんはアニメーター出身の方で、劇エヴｧのアスカ対量産機のシーンを作画された方だそうです。「子供たちの夜」はドーレムの遺跡と奏者として育てられた悲しい少年との友情の物語。私は、アニメであれ実写ドラマであれ心に響くものがあれば其れで良しと思います。磯光雄さんの次回作に期待しています。ぜひご覧ください。

「ラーゼフォンは劇場版だけでも充分」なんてよく言われるけれども違うと思う。
僕的には「劇場版と１５話さえ見とけば充分」なんです。
磯光雄さんが担当した１５話本当に良い。ロボットアニメというよりは名作劇場に近い雰囲気で非常に情緒がある芝居劇になっています
（その割に鉄砲戦がリアルに作られていたりもしますが。）
デジタルを駆使した絵作り的な部分でも、セルと背景に独特の統一感が組まれていて抜群のセンス。
映像関係の人なら是非見ておいたほうがいいと思います。
