初めて聞いたとき、一曲目のTUNING TONEが特に印象深く感じました。詩的で、素敵な絵が頭の中に広まり、オーケストラが与えてくれた衝撃が初めてトトロを見たときの感動を思い出させて頂きました。久石讓様がいつも平穏で、心がやわらかく優しくなる音楽を創ってくれます。このオーケストラストーリーズ となりのトトロ はどの曲も音質良い、お勧めの一品です!!!

曲目リスト中、１~８が語りの入ったもの、９~１６がそれぞれ１~８の語りなしのものです。このCDの曲は、ブリテンの「青少年のための管弦楽入門」という曲を意識したもので、トラック１の曲中で演奏しながらの楽器紹介がなされており、編曲も出来るだけシンプルかつ魅力的にまとめられています。これは親子の為の演奏会用としてリメイクした為でしょう。
このCDを一聴してまず感じたのは、メロディーの素晴らしさ。数ある彼の曲の中でも「トトロ」のメロディーは特に優れていると感じてはいましたが、どうしてこんなに美しいメロディーがつくれるのでしょうか。いまさらながらに久石氏の能力に感心させられる次第です。
以前から幾度となく共演を重ねてきた新日本フィルですが、この辺りのアルバムからなんだかとてもよい演奏をするようになったと感じています。ここに来て一皮むけるというのは素晴らしい。これからの久石氏とのコラボレーションに一層期待がもてます。

2002年春のコンサートにて「青少年のためのオーケストラ・ストーリーズ　となりのトトロ」として発表された楽曲がCDとなって発売。オーケストラに初めて接する方のために編曲されたもので、これからクラシックなどに接してみようかと思っている方にはおすすめだ。糸井重里氏のナレーションヴァージョンと、交響組曲ヴァージョン「となりのトトロ組曲」が収録されている。ちなみに演奏は、久石氏との共演が多い新日本フィルハーモニー交響楽団。収録はすみだトリフォニーホールにて。
