ランディーという若きエースを失った失意のオジーに発掘され、
このアルバムで穴埋めを立派に果たしたジェイク。
ジャケットデザインこそ…ですが、そんなジェイクの作曲能力・斬新な
プレーセンスが随所にちりばめられています。
ドン・エイリーのキーボードによる荘厳で奥行きのある味付けぶりも際立っており、
影の立役者としての力量が発揮されています。

皆さんも言ってるけど、今回のリマスターは、オジーの過去のメンバー（ボブ
、リー、ドン）に対する嫌がらせで出したとしか思えない駄作で、この月に
吠えるも3のドンのシンセエフェクトカット、4の本来入ってないジェイク
のオーバーダブされたギター、5のまたドンのシンセカット、フェイドアウト
してないエンドのカットなど、目を覆うばかりのひどさ。これでは、旧来の
ファンが怒るのも無理は無い。中古屋さんで探してでもオリジナルミックス
を聞くべし。

思えば80年代半ば、日本にもヘ「ビ」メタブームが、確かにあった。
AC/DCのFlick of the Switch、Judas PriestのDefenders of the faith、そして御大オジーのBark at the Moonなどがアルバム全曲徹頭徹尾、FMラジオで流れていた頃があったのだ。今となっては全くもって信じられない。
あの頃、リアルタイムでこのアルバムを体験し、昼夜を問わず聞きまくっていた人には、これ(2002年リリース版)は薦められない。細かいことを言うようだが、リミックスにあたって手を加えすぎている。ブルース・ディッキンソン氏の手によるということであるが、オジーの「過去をきれいにしたがる」癖は何とかしてほしいものだ。
ということで、Bark at the Moonアルバムにはオリジナルとリミックスの２種類がこの世に存在していることを、このＣＤを購入してから初めて知ったのでした。物好きな方はオリジナル(2000年以前に発売されたモノであればオリジナルと思っていいです)を探して聞き比べ(アラ探しし)てみたら面白いかも。
