ママレイド・ラグは決してはっぴいえんどもどきではないことを証明した傑作ファースト。
インストナンバー「Her Life」に象徴されるリズムへの執着。
ボサノヴァの影響が強く、余計な音は全くない。

素晴らしすぎるメロディーラインの楽曲がずらりと並ぶ。
山下達郎の、サニーデイ・サービスの、そして
アストラッド･ジルベルトの幻影が見える。

　ママレイド・ラグの音楽は、はっきり言って地味だ。今風な派手さやクールとは無縁だし、洒落てはいるけど今の時代でいうオシャレは感じられない。「ママレイド・ラグ」「春雨道中」「夜汽車」といったネーミングセンス、それにジャケット写真の雰囲気からも感じられる古風な感じに、音も声もすっぽり包まれている。でも、そこにあるのは「いつの時代にも変わらない音楽」の感じ。ノスタルジックで洒落た音楽でなく、良い音楽と歌をつくってるバンドだと思う。「夜汽車」の雰囲気と声で良い小説一冊読んだくらいの満足感が味わえる。

ミニアルバム「春雨道中」、シングル「目抜き通り」
はポップな感じの曲だが、アルバムの収録曲は
「夜汽車」のようなメロウなナンバーが多い。
雨の日や夜に思わずコーヒーを手にしながら聞きたくなる
1枚である。
ボーカルの田中君には作り手として只者でない才能を感じてしまう。
いいバンドを発見した喜びでいっぱいです。
