美しいジャケットも印象的なProcol Harumの流麗かつ力強いサウンド。クラシック的なアプローチが成し得た到達点の一つとして、70年代British Rockの名盤に数えられる傑作です。
B.J.Wilsonの骨太かつ華麗なドラミングとGary Brookerのハモンド/ピアノを土台に、トーンコントロールの効いたギターが絡みつく独特の音空間、響きとリズムを練り上げた構成は今聴いても新鮮かつ華麗です。韻を踏みながら英国人らしいヒネリを効かせたシニカルな歌詞（Procol作品のほとんどで作詞を担当するKeith Reidも冴えてます）も、この傑作の重要な構成要素でしょう。
前作"Grand Hotel"に比べると若干Rock色が濃いようにも感じますが、基本的には甲乙つけ難い統一感と美しさです。当時流行りのシンセサイザーに頼ることなしにこれほどのスケール感を奏でた彼等の力には、今更ながら敬服します。1,3などは大好きなB.J.の凄腕ドラミングも見事で、今更ながら彼が亡くなってしまった事が惜しまれます。

音楽を聴いていると、それぞれの国の臭いというものを感じるようになるものである。そしてこのアルバムは強烈なイギリス臭を放っている。

「青い影」の名声の影に隠れがちなのが残念でならないが、このアルバムは彼らにとっても、その持ち味を120％発揮した大傑作である。特に冒頭3曲は、コンサートでも定番であり、彼ららしいタメのリズムで刻む生粋のブリティッシュ魂は何度聞いても飽きない。もちろん彼らならではのオルガンは随所に行かされており、アルバム全体を通しての統一感がある。

メロディはポップで覚えやすく、リードをとるGary Brookerの声がお好きな方ならお気に召すこと必至である。
