   スピッツの歴史において、わずか5曲しか収録されていない本作ミニアルバム（1992年4月発売）は比較的異色の存在かもしれない。もちろん収録曲数が5曲のみという要素もあるが、全編にわたってホーンセクションとストリングスをアレンジしている点に大きな特徴がある。
   高らかなホーンが彩る勇壮なサウンドをバックに君への真っすぐな思いをつづった<1>、ゆったり流れるストリングスに乗せ、郷愁を込めてしんみり歌う<2>など、大らかなサウンドと孤独な世界を繊細に描いた歌詞の対比は、まさに芸術的レベルだ。2002年10月発売のトリビュートアルバム『一期一会』に<2>が選曲されていることからも、本作のクオリティの高さがうかがえる。（速藤年正）

オリジナルは92年9月発売のミニ・アルバム。全編にオーケストレーションを施し、ストリングスやブラス、キーボード・アレンジも効いた作品となっている。ヴォーカルも安定してきた頃ですね。

　曲数が少ないので、まだ買ってない人も多いと思います。それに、他のアルバムとは毛色も違いますし。確かに"バンド"としてのスピッツのよさは現れていません。でも、その分、草野さんの詞がすごく表に出ている作品だと思います。もう今のスピッツには見られない、すごく純粋でナイーヴな詞達です。

　特に"田舎の生活"は絶品ですね。愛する人とのかなわぬ未来の日を夢想する歌ですが、男の人も、女の人もきっとこの曲を聞けば、自分も愛する人とそんな生活をしたいと思わせる歌です。

　あと、"海ねこ"も好きな歌です。この世界はいつ終わるかわからないから、だからせめて今日だけは僕の隣にいてという歌です。スピッツの曲にはこんな刹那を主題にした歌が多いですね。

　"田舎の生活"と"ナイフ"は、ジャンボリーデラックスでも聞くことができます。とくに"田舎の生活"アレンジがすごく変わっているので、聞き比べてみるのもいいと思います。

５曲入りのミニアルバム。
ストリングスやホーンを多用し、それまでのバンドサウンドを抑え目にしてあるので、当時は冒険作といわれていたそうだ。でもこの一枚で、随分スピッツの音楽的な幅も広がったのではないだろうか。
そして曲の方も思いがけず名曲ぞろい。
中でも「田舎の生活」は、アコースティックギターと木琴とヴォーカルのみのシンプルなサウンドに、叙情的な歌詞、美しいメロディ。すーっと体中の余計な力が抜けていく。
頭痛・肩こりなどに悩んでいる方、この曲を聴くと少し和らぐかもしれませんよ。

スピッツは結構アルバムごとにカラーが違うが、この「オーロラになれなかった人のために」は、スピッツのアルバムの中でも異彩を放っています。
いわゆる「ポップ」なスピッツでもなければ、「ロック」なスピッツとも違う。ピンクフロイドなどのプログレに影響を受けたような曲たちが聴けます。アルバムを通して「１つの作品」になっており、１曲聴きにな適さない点も、前衛的な点もプログレ的であり、まさに「スピッツ流のプログレ」とでもいえるような作品になっている。
