90年代初頭から活動を続ける、日本スカシーン大御所バンドが自らのレーベルを立ち上げてリリースした4作目。とはいっても気負いなど微塵もなく、カリブの他の島々の臭いすら漂わせるオーセンティックなスカを聴かせてくれる。LPみたいな音もグー。

新宿TOWER RECORDSの洋楽フロアでは、ジャマイカのレゲエの老舗・TROJANのベスト盤がかなり売れてるらしい。お店の人にそう聞いたときには、UB40がカヴァーした「RED RED WINE」とか、クラッシュがカヴァーした「POLICE AND THIEVES」とか、耳なじみのある曲が入ってるからなあとかボンヤリ思ってたのだが。若い人の耳はリアルタイムでどんどん進化していたのだなあと、このアルバムを聴いて何かがつながった気がしたのは、いかにも30代後半のおっさんらしい気づきの遅さであった(反省)。結論は、EGO-WRAPPIN’、スカパラ、スカフレイムス、DRY&HEAVY、そしてローカル・シーンではこの大阪のDETERMINATIONSなどが広めてきたスカ~ロックステディ~レゲエのセンスが、しっかり根付いたということだろう。大衆的で、肉感的で、感情豊かなホーンとギター、そしてジャマイカと日本をつなぐ美しいメロディの共通点。根源的な郷愁を感じつつも新しい、素晴らしいグルーヴだ。 (宮本英夫) --- 2002年10月号

今でも高津氏（Vo）「毎度！飲んでるか？」の声が聞こえてきそうな気がします。
本当に何故このバンドが解散を？与えてくれた感動に比例してその疑問は深まるいっぽうではありますが、こちらのアルバムchat chatを最後のアルバムに（正確にはアナログ7インチをリリースを最後に）惜しまれながらも先日解散してしまったdeterminations。
最初の作品から比べ演奏力、内容ともに至高のレベルに達したのが伝わってきます。しかしながら至高のレベルに達しながらも解散。もはや解散から数週間にして伝説化してしまいそうなバンドの最高の作品です。私自身も多感な時期をともにしてきた作品であり、大袈裟に言えば次の世代に伝えて欲しくもあり、あなたの家族や友人や恋人大切な人だけと聞いてほしい欲しい一枚でもあります。
お勧めの曲は選ぶことができませんが、解散の悲しみの余韻も濃く季節の変わり目な今はcrazyなんて聞いたら切なくなりますね。
本当にdeterminationsありがとう。お疲れさまでした。

出だしの『バイヨーン！』から
一気に濃厚な世界に連れてかれるのが
このアルバムです。
夜がいつまでも明けて欲しくなくて
心地よく酔っ払いながら音楽に揺れる。
そんなゆるさ、心地よさが伝わってきます。
早く夏の夜がこないかな・・

巷にあふれているスカに物足りなさを感じている人にはぜひオススメ
の1枚。純粋に格好いいスカです。残念ながら最近解散してしまった
ようですが…。エゴラッピンなどからもリスペクトされていたり、これ
を聞かずしてスカ好きは語れないですね。
