いいですね。
ボーカルのシャウトがないのが、とてもいいです。
オルガンの音色が独特で、古くさびた感じがします。
カンタベリーの音楽としてはソフトマシーンが有名ですが、ちょっと雰囲気が違って、それもまた良しです。
この後、Dシンクレアが脱退して、音楽性が少し変わります。
このアルバムは純正caravanの傑作と言えるでしょう。
セールス的には恵まれなかったこのバンドですが、その後も息の長いバンドとして存続したことが証明するように、いいものは良いということでしょうね。
機会があったら、是非、ご拝聴を。

'71年発表、彼らのサードアルバム。母体は'60年代に活動していたワイルドフラワーズというバンドで、このバンドからソフトマシンとキャラヴァンのカンタベリー（イングランド南東部の地名です）を代表する２大バンドが誕生しました。ただこのキャラヴァン、ソフトマシンとは音楽的に全く異なっています。ソフトマシンほどのジャズ的エッセンスは無く、あくまでポップでほのぼのとした楽曲志向のバンド。本編最後の20分弱の大作「ナインフィート・・・」にしても、プログレらしい組曲となっていますが、やはりポップで英国的なかげりのあるメロディが随所に顔を出します。もしロバートワイアットがキャラヴァンで叩いていたら、絶対にこうはならなかったでしょうね。技術的にはソフトマシンの方が上かもしれませんが、個人的には、キャラヴァンの人懐っこい楽曲、朴訥としていますが、自然でリラックスした歌唱（ボーカルの弱さを指摘されたこともあるそうですが、プログレ系のシャウトが苦手な私は、そこが好きなところです）の方に惹かれます。サウンドプロダクションも最高で、音の粒立ち、暖かさ、リズム隊の歯切れの良さなど聴いていてとても気持ちいいです。やはり彼らの最高傑作といっていいでしょう。ボーナストラックも充実していて、彼ららしいポップな持ち味満載の、「なんでこの曲がボツになったの？」っていうくらいいい曲入ってます！やはりこの時期が一番充実していたんじゃないでしょうか。

時にパイ･ヘイスティングのソロプロジェクト的ですらあるキャラバンですが、この一枚に限ってはリチャード・シンクレアとデイブ・シンクレアが、一世一代とも言える集中力を見せて主役の座を奪っています。ひんやりとした川の水のごとくボーカルとオルガンが永遠に流れ続けていくような美しい世界が広がる一枚です。
というわけで、本作はシンクレア氏２人の大活躍により正に名作中の名作だと思いますが、パイの出番が極端少なく、キャラバンとしては特殊な作品といえますので、これ一枚だけ聴くとキャラバンというグループの全体が見えくくなるような気もします。できれば、「夜ごと太る女のために」など他の作品とセットで聴くのがお勧めです。
