シェリル・ベンティーンは、好きなヴォーカリストです。マンハッタン・トランスファーが大好きですので当然かもしれませんが、ジャズの真髄これにあり、という雰囲気が漂っています。これだけ素晴らしいスタンダード・ナンバーを並べてもらいますと、ジャズ・ヴォーカルをあまり聴いていない人にとっても馴染みやすいと思いました。

歌が上手い、というのは最初のスタンダード・ナンバー「ユード・ビー・ソー・ナイス・トゥ・カム・ホーム・トゥ」を聴くだけで十二分に納得します。ヘレン・メリルの名歌唱に勝るとも劣らないのは流石です。リズム感の良さは、マン・トラの時からお墨付きでしたので。

バラードもいいですね。「ザ・ベリー・ソート・オブ・ユー」「エブリシング・ハプンズ・トゥ・ミー」の歌唱などは大御所の貫禄すら漂っています。この道何十年のキャリアは伊達ではありません。

「ファーマーズ・マーケット」の卓越した技術には驚かされます。これだけ器楽的な早いパッセージをものともせず、音程が狂いなくピタッと、はまるあたりは寸分の狂いも許されないジャズ・コーラスで鍛えられているからでしょうね。

「ガール・トーク」は好きな曲です。これを何回も繰り返し聴いていますが、ステキでシェリルの雰囲気にピッタリです。バックコーラスも達者で、流石にＴＡＫＥ6のメンバーだけのことはあります。
ラテン調のアレンジが新鮮な「春の如く」もご機嫌です。リズム感の良さが生きています。ウキウキしながら堪能させてもらいました。シェリル・ベンティーン恐るべし。
