１４曲目の「デーモンズ・オン・ザ・クラウン」はモロに「ラプソディ」です。壮大なオーケストラコーラスは圧巻です。
TVゲームの「悪魔城ドラキュラ」が好きな方は必ずうなずけます。

イタリアンシンフォニックメタルのニューカマー、ザイ・マジェスティの2nd。2002作
1stの時点から適度なB級っぽさとクサメロ、トラッドメロディなどが魅力的で、そのサウンドは
「ミニRHAPSODY」と形容できるような大仰さと、ファンタジックな部分とを併せ持っていた。
さて、続く今作はイングランド史のなかの「ヘイスティングスの戦い」モチーフにした壮大なコンセプト作となった。
相当な時間をかけてレコーディングしたという通り、男女コーラスや曲のアレンジなどは非常に凝っていて、
RHAPSODY的要素に加え、今回はRUNNING WILDやMANOWAR的な勇壮さも感じさせる。
ただ、ことクサメロという点では1stの方が上だったように思う。
曲展開は変拍子を使ったリズム面やアコースティカルな叙情も含めてそれぞれに凝っているのだが、
それが結果として盛り上がりを分かりにくく、曲の焦点をぼやけさせている気がする。
シリアスなコンセプトのためか、1stよりも若干キャッチーさを抑えたメロディはかえって一聴のつかみに欠ける。
もちろんこのバンドのセンスの良さは所々に現れていて、歌メロやトラッド的なメロディなどには
聴くべき部分が多く、それがはまった曲に関しては非常に出来がよく感じる。
FALCONERなどヴァイキングメタルファンにもアピールするものがあるだろう。
スバ抜けて上手くはないがヴォーカルの親しみやすい声質は好感が持て、今後にも期待できる。
RHAPSODYのような派手さはないがじっくり聴き込むとこのバンドの良さが分かってくるだろう。
