   10歳の誕生日に、自分が捨て子だったことを知らされた少女レミ。人買いに売られそうになるところを旅芸人の老人ヴィタリスに助けられ、一緒に旅をすることに。道中で、親切な貴婦人・ミリガンに助けられるが、彼女が自分の本当の母親だということをレミはまだ知らない…。エクトル・マロの有名な小説を原作に、1996年から1997年にかけて放送された23本目の「世界名作劇場」。シリーズ最後の作品である。
   主人公の性別をはじめ、本作は原作を大きく改変。結果として、「不幸な境遇にありながらも明るさを失わない主人公」「旅の中ではぐくまれる信頼」「濡れ衣」「親しい者の死」「意地悪な親方」「子どもたちの友情」「実は主人公は貴族の子ども」…といった、「世界名作劇場」的キーワードがてんこ盛りの、シリーズの集大成と言えそうなストーリー展開になった。声優陣も、堀江美都子（「愛少女ポリアンナ物語」他）、山田栄子（「赤毛のアン」他）、林原めぐみ（「七つの海のティコ」）など、おなじみの面子がそろいぶみ。最後の作品であることを意識していた、というのは考えすぎだろうか？
   ヴィタリスがレミに告げる「前へ進め！」というセリフが、シンプルだが心に響く。後半、レミは果たして母親に再会できるのか？という話でもうちょっと盛り上げてほしかった気もするが、90年代も後半という時期にあって、あくまで「世界名作劇場」らしさにこだわった意欲作だと言えるのではなかろうか。（安川正吾）

『家なき子レミ』はとても音楽の美しい作品です。さだまさしさんの歌う『愛について』youcaさんの歌う
『しあわせの予感』はメロディーのラインが美しく、歌詞も心を打ち、歌手の方も本当にきれいな歌声を聴かせてくれます。
これだけでこの作品は見る価値があったと思っています。

また、第１巻も素晴らしかったと思います。「前へすすめ」「泣き虫レミ」といったヴィタリスさんのやさしい
一言に溢れていました。

しかし、この巻から徐々に怪しげな雰囲気が作品を覆い始めます。まず、二十数話しかない話数の桎梏があまりに
急展開なストーリーに反映され始めます。また、無理に主人公を女の子に変え、名作劇場の24話を振り返ろうか、

という展開に無理が出てきます。話の作り自体が『ロミオの青い空』のようなやや単純な造りになってきて、
その中に盗み、火事、いじめ、別れ、再会、恋愛、といった要素が入ってきます。

話が速すぎて心がついていかないし、感動させよう、というのが露骨になってきて楽しめません。

「前へすすめ」の台詞が段々決まり文句になってきて第一巻の感動までもが薄れてしまいます。
大人が子どもに強要する感動になり始めていてリアリティがありません。
主人公レミの性格もかなりブレがあって一定しないし、その分堀江美都子さんの声にも落ち着けません。

また、10歳の女の子にわざわざ恋愛させなくてもいいでしょう。他の作品のように男女の友情ではダメなのか？
せっかくの名作が、作り手の勝手な、大人的な演出によってつぶされてしまった気がします。

『世界名作劇場』は「ナンとジョー先生」で終わりを告げ、そこから全くアニメ的な物語に変わってしまった気がします。

第二巻以降は、現代的な「ロミオの青い空」や「七つの海のティコ」を楽しめる人なら楽しいでしょうし、それでなければ
そうでないでしょう。
