Rock in Japanや、桑田佳祐のラジオ番組、CMで数曲が披露され始めたこのアルバム。「東京」が傑作だっただけに、期待される作品だ。爽快なロックナンバー"Rock and Roll Hero"、Love Psychedelicoがゲスト参加した"Blue Monday"、ジョン・レノンの「ジョンの魂」を想起させる「影法師」、そして「東京」、そのカップリングの「夏の日の少年」と凄いラインアップが１３曲続くのだろう。「波乗りジョニー」、「白い恋人達」、「可愛いミーナ」が収録されなかったのは、このアルバムがロック性が強いからだろう。"Rock and Roll Hero"では、最近の日本をテーマに、桑田節全開の歌詞。桑田自身、「歌詞カードを見ながら聴いて欲しいアルバム」と位置づけているから、歌詞も期待される。１１月にもニュー・アルバムが出るそうだが、そちらも楽しみだ。

いやぁ~、凄い！
またもや、クワタが凄いアルバムを作った。
ロックンロールヒーローのアルバムタイトル通り、全篇ロックサウンドで作られたこの作品は、今までにも増して素敵でパワフル。

オープニングの「Hold On」から「Rockn Roll Hero」へと流れる軽快感はしびれる。「Rockn Roll Hero」がサイコー！にイイ！

歌詞も、時代を風刺した内容で、ロック魂が詰まったこのアルバムは、クワタファンだけでなく、多くの人を納得させるはず！

　「波乗りジョニー」「白い恋人達」といったポップス調のシングル曲は、収録されていない。曲目を見て、最初は物足りなさを覚えるかもしれない。
　しかし、聴いてみればあの２シングルを外した意味が良く分かる。アルバム全体が、「ロック」をテーマに構築されている。サザンとしての活動では、ここまで偏ったアルバムは作れないだろう。
　迷いの無い、勢いのある曲が並ぶ。このアルバムのレコーディングは楽しかっただろう、と容易に想像できる。
　個々の曲目当てというより、アルバム全体として味わえる名盤。
　なお、「夏の日の少年」はシングル版とは違うアレンジが施されている。
