1970年発表のファースト・アルバム。社会派フォーク全盛の当時にあって、自己の内面世界を突き詰めたような彼の歌は特異な存在だった。本作は3曲でデビュー直前のはっぴいえんど（大滝詠一を除く）が参加しており、ウェスト・コースト的バンド・サウンドを聴かせているが、それは付随的なもので、メインはあくまでもエンケンの歌とギターだ。ささやくような歌い方で心情を吐露し、膨大なエモーションを生み出すヴォーカルはすでに確立していて、特に名曲「ほんとだよ」の繊細な歌唱が絶品。また、独自の手法によるアコギのプレイもすばらしい。「ただそれだけ」ではアコギをシタールのように弾いているし、さらには12分以上の大作「猫が眠っている、NIYAGO」での弦を叩くようなダイナミックなプレイは、宇宙的なスケール感やアシッド・サイケなトリップ感を漂わせている。のちの爆発力はまだないが、エンケンの怪人ぶりがすでに表れている佳作だ。（小山 守）
