どう考えてもこの作品はBONJOVIの歴史に残る名盤中の名盤である。初期の作品の集大成とも言える作品であり、前作".... when wet"の大ヒットによってブレイクした直後の、これまた大ヒットを記録したアルバムであるが、出来は前作よりも上だろう。有名は"Bort to be my baby", "Bad Medicine"なんかよりも後半の曲の方が優れている。"I"ll be there for you", "Stick to your guns"あたりのバラードに関しては、まさにジョンのコンポーザーとしての才能を充分に発揮した文句なく素晴らしい曲だ。このアルバムは前期の集大成でもあり、アメリカのロックシーンに永遠に残る名盤であろう。

　現在ROCK界の頂点君臨するにBON　JOVI。そのBON　JOVIの名盤中の名盤の位置までもあるのが、BON　JOVIの通算4枚目のアルバムでもある「NEW　JERSEY」である。本作は前作と同様世界中で大ヒットしアメリカのチャートでも4週連続1位を記録した超名盤だ。また本作のタイトルの「NEW　JERSEY」はBON　JOVIの中心人物のジョン　ボンジョヴィの故郷の名でも知られている。

　本作の曲調はというと前作までのPOPS調のピュアロック風のサウンドとは異なり、アメリカンロック的なサウンドに変わりつつあるかのように見える。また本作にはBON　JOVIの名曲中の名曲の一つでもある2は全米シングルチャート1位を記録した名曲をはじめ名曲でもある9や10などのバラードナンバーが収録されている。また軽快的な3も本作の中では名曲ともいってもいいし8も矢張りBON　JOVIの曲としては名曲ともいえるだろう。また11は名曲ではないが個人的に気に入ってる方だ。本作はBON　JOVIの初のトータルコンセプトアルバムといえるほどの出来栄えだと思う。

　本作はBON　JOVIファンはもちろん洋楽系ロックファンにはおすすめできるアルバムだ。

前作よりは聴きやすくなり曲のクオリティーもレベルアップしたが、「WILD IS THE WIND」「LIVING IN SIN」「STICK TO YOUR GUNS」は秀作たが、それ以外は個人的に捨て曲。
