ストーンズの作品の中ではイマイチ評価の低いこのアルバム。
でも、フォーク・ロック、ソフト・ロックに挑戦したアルバムとして聴くと…
浮遊感漂う「Yesterday's Papers」,若きキースのボーカルが冴える
「Connection」,数あるバラードの中でも屈指の美メロ「Back Street Girl」etc
…最高じゃないですか！！

ジャケの冬枯れた雰囲気も相まって、ビートルズ「ラバー・ソウル」とも
イメージが重なる。バーズやバッファロー・スプリングフィールド、
ゾンビーズあたりが好きな人には胸を張ってお勧めします。

"Aftermath"、"December's children"のあと、"Stanic Majesty..."の前にリリースされていたのが本作。前後の作品に比べて、正直言って核になる曲が見当たらないこともあって、小粒な観をぬぐえません。
実際コンパクトに３分足らずに収まる曲も多いんですが、個人的には、残念ながら曲の魅力で前２作、アレンジの巧みさと幅で後の作品に及ばないと思っています。

自分達のスタイルを確立し、成功した前２作の延長には止まらず、曲作りやサウンド･エッフェクトで新たな冒険を試みたことは間違いないところですが、今にして聴くとやはり中途半端に、こぢんまりとした印象をうけます。
