演技っぽくない、本当にその辺に歩いていそうな少年。
父親代わりの修道士はいたが、母親を知らない生活。
ありがちなストーリーのようにも思えるが、
十字架上のイエスと話を結びつけた所が驚きであり、
すごく印象に残る映画となっていきました。
クリスチャンが多い国ではもちろん、
日本のようなキリストが身近でない国の人間でも素直に感動できます。

特に後半の二階の部屋での出来事には、一つひとつ新鮮な感動があります。
学校や社会では教えてくれない、気づかせてくれない、
子供の純粋な優しさの中に本当の優しさを見つけました。

素晴らしい映画で、完成度の高い傑作だと素直に思います。マルセリーノが大変可愛らしい。そしてまた、暖かく、時に厳しく見守り愛する１２人の修道士がなんとも素晴らしい。純粋な信仰を結晶にしたような映画です。
屋根裏のような２階で、イエスの手がマルセリーノに指しのべられるとき、感動で泣きました。
マルセリーノは茨を取ってあげながらイエスに聞きます。「手と足・・・痛いでしょう？」イエスは答えます。「とてもね」
この言葉に何か深いものを感じて、何度もこのシーンを観てしまいます。
修道士達はマルセリーノが聖人となった後も、彼を愛して幸せだったでしょう。
何かを説教するのではなく、ただマルセリーノのほほを優しくなでるイエスが、信仰の本来の姿を現しているのかもと思いました。

貧しい時に本当の人の心が美しく現れるのでしょうか。子供を心からかわいがる修道士のそれぞれの愛し方に感動。天にめされてしまうのは、残酷にも感じられたが、神を信じ愛するものには何よりの喜びなのでしょうか。陰から、天にめされるマルセリーノを見送る修道士達の表情も涙なくしてはいられない、不朽の名作です。
