　この映画の原題は「The man who cried」です。
直訳すれば、「泣く男」の通り、泣く人はたくさん登場しますが、
「耳に残るは君の歌声」とした翻訳者の方に感謝したいと思います。

　この映画では、離れ離れになった親子をつなぎ続けるのが歌であり、
主人公スーザンや、周りの人々を救うのも歌だからです。

　物語はアメリカに出稼ぎに行った父と、故郷ロシアに残された娘が、戦争によって引き裂かれるところから始まります。スーザンはどんな困難にあおうとも、父に会えることを信じて、歌いつづけます。

　私はジョニー・デップが目当てでこの映画を見ましたが、クリスティーナ・リッチが演じるスーザンの美しく、悲しげな歌声に心奪われ、サントラも買いました。（彼もリッチと息が合い、いい雰囲気でした。）
　また、ロシア人を演じるケイト・ブランシェットは、『ギフト』で見せた主婦役と同じ人物と思えないぐらい、妖艶で名演技でした。

　オペラ好きな方、泣きたい方、家族について考え直したい方、恋愛映画を見たい方など、どなたにもお勧めです。

強制収容所に送られてしまう以外の、当時のユダヤ人の人生をクリスチーナ・リッチーを通して追っていく物語だと思いました。戦争の悲惨さの真っ只中を描いているわけではなくとも、その恐ろしさ、狂気が見にしみます。
リッチーの寡黙ながらも、生きる意志を貫く強い女性の演技が心を捉えますし、艶やかな黒髪がとても美しさを引立たせていました。

親友役のケイト・ブランシェットは言うことなしの役化けぶり。
そして、やはりナチスに迫害されるジプシーを演じるジョニー・デップ。乗馬シーンが多くあるんですが、その凛々しいこと。ニヒルな笑顔に女性はドキドキするはず。
時代物としても、ロマンスとしても見て損はない作品です。

ユダヤ人迫害の映画かと思って恐る恐る観たら、そういうシーンがまったく無くて安心しました。すべてのキャストがすばらしく、すべての音楽が耳に残り、こんなにも美しい映画を作ることができるサリーポッターってほんとに素敵な人なんだろうなって思います。オペラのことはあまりよく知らないけれど、すっかりサルバトーレリチートラの歌声にはまってしまいました。映画のＣＤもお勧めです。エンドロールの音楽までじ~んとする素敵な映画です。
