2001年発売の将棋ソフト「最強東大将棋 4」の機能を分割・改良したライト版。大会バトルのみを収録し、思考エンジンや、グラフィック、サウンドは本編と変わらないものを搭載。A・B・C級トーナメントと3つの名人戦に出場する「将棋大会」、7人のライバルとタイトル戦形式で対戦する「7番勝負」、駒落ちや時間設定、自由局面からの対局も可能な「通常対局」が楽しめる。そのほか、棋譜や盤面の編集と詰将棋を解く「編集詰将棋」、詰みの有無をコンピュータが分析する「棋譜解析」を収録。
