とにかく完成度高い!任天堂には珍しい、フルボイス、シンプルな操作、どれをとっても名作です。N64というと少し古い感じがしますが、画面もみやすく、自然にプレイ出来ます。
ステージもどれも個性的で、緊張感が生まれます。
そして個人的に何より素晴らしいのは、「チャージ弾を使うと追加点が入る」という点。これにより、上級ゲーマーでもやり込むことが出来ます。ライトユーザーにはちょっとムズイかもですが、あの緊張感や高揚感を是非味わって欲しいですね。
敢えて難点を挙げるとすれば、ステージ選択ができないところですかね。

時間がたってもおもしろいものはおもしろいです。
自分はSTGはあまりやりませんが、これだけは結構楽しみました。
とにかく操作性がよく、単純にゲームとして面白いことに加えて
映画的な演出を違和感なく取り入れることに成功している、
とでも言うのでしょうか。
とにかく名作なので、１度はプレイをお勧めします。
wiiででると思われる次回作も楽しみです。

このゲームでとりわけ面白いのが一人プレイ。
謎の巨大円盤と友軍敵軍入り乱れてのドッグファイト、艦隊をすり抜けながら味方を援護するステージ、敵本拠地への防衛戦線の突破、ライバルとの対決など、王道ながら素晴らしいステージが多いです。そしてなにより凄いのが64でありながらセリフの殆どにボイスが付いている点。これがあるおかげでわざわざテロップを見る必要もなく、名ゼリフがさらに際だっています。
隠しルートがわかりにくいですが、条件さえわかればそれほど難しいわけではありません。
そしてクリア後のお楽しみがハイスコアルートで新記録を樹立すること。これがあるおかげで何度もプレイしてしまう。

以下はスターフォックス64で残念だった点。
・ルート感でセーブが出来ないためある程度時間が無いとクリアするのは難しい。
・対戦モードが少し不出来。CPUも追加できないしどうしても初心者とだと腕に差が開きすぎる。
