   プレイヤーはいずれかの種族を操り、戦いを勝ち抜いていくことになる。高度な3Dで表現されたファンタジックな世界は、美しいだけではなく土地の形状によって戦略上の優劣を決定する要素にもなっている。「ワールドエディター」を使用すれば、3Dマップの作成、ユニットや呪文の内容などが設定でき、オリジナル・シナリオを描くことも可能だ。

   また、本ソフトを開発したブリザード社が無料提供しているインターネットゲーミング・ネットワーク「Battle.net」を利用してのネットワーク対戦も可能。ひとつのゲームで最高12人までが同時にプレイでき、チームプレイやクエストなどさまざまなゲームタイプも選択できる。プレイヤー同士でのユニットの共有、資源の交換もでき、ネットワークゲームの醍醐味を味わえるだろう。（三井貴美子）

Diabloシリーズを生み出したスタジオ、Blizzard制作によるファンタジー・ロールプレイング・シミュレーションゲーム。リアルタイム戦略SLG「WARCRAFT」シリーズの世界観を背景に、RPGの要素を追加。ヒューマン、オーク、アンデッド、ナイト・エルフの4種族のいずれかを操り、ヒーローを鍛え、軍団を指揮して戦乱を戦っていく。4種族毎に各3名用意されたヒーローは、経験を重ねることで成長し、新しいスキルや魔法を習得するほか、特殊なアイテムを駆使することや周囲の味方ユニットに力を与えるなどの様々な能力を発揮するようになる。またどの種族にも敵対しない「中立の建物」や、どの種族にも属さない「中立のユニット」が設定されている。さらに、最大12人の通信対戦ができ、プレイヤー間でのユニットコントロールの共有が可能になったほか、プレイヤー間での資源のトレードが行えるので戦略性の高いチームプレイが実現できる。

　貴方が、バトルネットと言われているインターネット対戦
システムのチャット空間で、初めて出会った人達と気軽に
会話を交わして、このウォークラフト３のインターネット対戦
を愉しむ事が出来そうならば、正にこのゲームは買いです。

　２００２年７月の初出荷数は、全世界で総計５００万本
と言う、途方も無い定番インターネット対戦ゲームなのです。

　残念ながら２００２年７月現在、ゲーム本体のすべての
表示は英語であり、日本語ではありませんが、インターネット
のバトルネットシステム自体は改良され、同じ日本人同士で
集まり易いようにアジア地方専用のバトルネットも用意されおり、
チャット自体は勿論、日本語で楽しめます。
（注意として、２００２年７月現在、日本語!入!力システムの

　ATOKとは一部障害があるようです）

　さぁ、貴方も無限の戦いの世界へ!!

5.0 out of 5 stars AoE系プレイヤーから見たWC, 2003/1/11
AoE系にはまって、AoE系に期待してこのゲームに手をだしてはいけない。同じRTS（リアルタイムストラレジー）系列のゲームだからといって、これは別種のゲームです。
しかし、RTS好きならば是非やってみて欲しいゲーム。

AoE系と異なり、資源の簡略化、ランダムマップが無い、ユニットの上限が低い、ヒーローとEXPの概念等、AoE系とはまったく違います。

最初のうちはとまどうでしょうが、そこを越えればどっぷりはまること請け合い。
しかもBattleNetもパワーアップし、自動的に対戦相手を探してくれたり、サーバー内の自分の成績の順位なども確認できるなど、はまる要素たっぷり。

食わず嫌いはやめて、是非やって欲しいゲームです。個人的には2002年度NO1ゲームです。
