R・プラントもやっとここにきて、ボーカルのチカラ技だけで聴き手を唸らせるという思い込みから離脱できたのだなと思う。
シンガーにとってノドの衰えは当然やってくるものだし、前から指摘されてはいたけれど。声量や音域は最近の若い歌い手にまかせればいい。でもね、重要なのは、今作品は今の彼だから創り出せたんだと思わせるものに仕上がっていることなんですよ。特に2.5.6.10の4曲はいずれもスローやミディアムなテンポの曲で、完璧に円熟しきった知性と力量を発揮しきっています。これらの4曲を夜中に部屋のライティングを抑えてリピート設定でしつこく何度も聴いていますが全く飽きず、いずれも静謐さがあっていんですよ、これが。今までのソロでなかった新境地ではないかな。カバー曲が多いし、歌詞カードが全くないので本当のところ分からないけど、創作テーマが今までで一番自身の人生に向き合っているように思える。曲によってはジャージーやフォークトラッドの深みも感じられていいなぁ。
2曲目のモーニング・デューは第1期JEFF BECK GROUP“TRUTH”に入っている曲らしいけれども、まだ駆出し当時のR・ステュワートと比較してみるとおもしろいかな。実はこのアレンジにおもわず“あれ、こんな曲だった?”と思った。

ＲＵＳＨというカナダのバンドをよく聞く。特に初期の頃のを聞くとＺＥＰフリークらしく。ロバート・プラントそっくりの声に聞こえる時があり微笑ましい。ＲＵＳＨの原点はＺＥＰである。では、ＺＥＰの原点は？？これが難しい。ジミー・ペイジもロバート・プラントもその音の原点とするところは多種多様で捕らえにくい。それが魅力でもある。「ノークオーター」でその原風景を垣間見させてくれたが、このソロアルバムもロバート・プラントの世界に触れることが出来、一種の感動を覚える。いい出来です。しかし懐が深いです。１曲１曲の出来が素晴らしく、特にボブ・ディランの「コーヒーをもう１杯」は珠玉の出来、「ダークネス・ダークネス」も「ソング・トゥ・ザ・サイレン」も１曲目の「ファニー・イン・マイ・マインド」も感動もんです。

このディスクは何度も聞いてその良さを感じていけるというタイプのモノであると思う。全く派手さもないし、シングルカットしてヒットを飛ばせるような曲も少ない。ただ、じっくりと練られた大人の音作りがそこにはある。酒とつまみを囲いながらゆったりと聞くというのが似合う。

ジミーページとの２つのアルバム（特に１作目）で聞かせたアジア、アフリカの音楽要素をより煮詰めたような音作りは独特のプラントの音楽世界を聞かせる。新バンドのサポートも文句のつけようがなく、プラントが愉しんでこのアルバムを作った様子が感じられる。
