「サンゲリア」、「ビヨンド」、「地獄の門」、つまりあの絶倫三作の直後です。アレラがアレラだっただけに、 若干大人しめの感が拭えません。 事実、２０年も前にレンタルで観た時には、「なんじゃあ、 この、ネタがみえみえの不条理バナシはあ？」 と、アキレた記憶があります。 しかし、腐るほどホラーを観て、また戻ってくると、 さすがにフルチ作品です。 ワタシの脳味噌を刺激して、エンドルフィンを誘発してくれます。
「愛人を殺し、自殺した男がいた。 その研究をひきつぐために、 夫婦とコドモが『墓地裏の家』にひっこしてくる。 次々殺人が勃発！ それらはなにを隠そう、不老不死を身につけた フロイトステイン医師の仕業であった！」
これだけです。 コドモの前に謎の少女がうろうろ。 謎のハウス・キーパー。 唐突な連続殺人。 血まみれの死体。 刺された穴がらウジがこぼれ落ちる、 どうみたってニブくて弱そうなよたよたの フロイトステイン博士！ （走って逃げりゃあ、いいじゃん！） そして、解釈に苦しむエンディング！ やっぱり、マニア以外には尊敬されないかも。。。
じゃあ、なんで、いいかというと。。。いかにも、なにか起こりそうだという空気、なんだか、怪しいキャラ、そして、「オレはコレをやりたいんだああ！」というなんのテライもない、時には脈絡をも無視するフルチ巨匠の気迫！　これに尽きます！

フルチ絶好調の頃の映画だと思います。カトリオーナ・マッコール主演だし。他では聞けない妙な音楽もGOO。防毒マスクみたいな面のゾンビが魅力的。相変わらず予測不能なラストを迎えますが、あまりに堂々としていて「これでいいのだっ！」と思わせてしまう凄さがあると思います。

プレミア価値がついて破格の値段になってしまっているが、正直話は字幕が無くても大体わかるので、
Amazon.comのAll RegionのDVDを買った方が、送料込みで４０００円しないので、お得だと思う。
フルチの作品は、ストーリーより映像のインパクト重視なので、字幕無しでも楽しめる。
ましてやこの作品は絶頂期の時なので、ストーリーは支離滅裂！！

補足だが、日本版DVDのジャケット裏のストーリー解説は、書いていることは少ないが、
「地下室に住むのはフロストステイン博士だ」と、犯人の正体をばらしてしまっている！笑
（まあ、どこの解説でも書いてありますが。）
