　ＮＨＫでテレビ放映したときは感動的で全作品欠かさず見ました。特に第２部はストーリーや制作者のメッセージがストレートに伝わってきてよいと思います。中でも第２話「冬の樹」がすばらしい。脚本の見事さ、レギュラー陣の良さに加え、竹井みどりの新鮮かつ巧みな演技には目を瞠るものがあります。
　約３０年も前の制作ですが、陳腐さを微塵も感じさせない、自信を持ってお勧めできる作品です。

　評価の高い４部の「車輪の一歩」、３部の「シルバーシート」もよかったが、この２部の「冬の樹」も名作です。学校に理不尽な要求をするモンスター・ペアレンツやお受験など現代の親子の問題を解く鍵がこの作品にはあると思う。
　鶴田浩二がそれまで警備会社にさんざん文句を言ってきた父親の娘が行方不明になった時に、その父親に対して「娘が帰ってきたら、抱きしめるのか？しかるのか？」と問いただし、父親が「さあ、どうしたものか」と答えた後、「どうしてそのように態度が決まらんのだ！」と一喝し、娘の気持ちがわからない父親に対して切々と語る場面が印象的でした。今、子を持つ全ての親に見ることをお勧めします。

山田太一という脚本家は、ご都合主義やあざとさが鼻につくばかりのTVドラマ作家たちとはレベルが違う、日本脚本界が誇れる至宝の存在であります。かの鬼才・あの「天井桟敷」主催者である寺山修司とも親交が深かったとの事ですが、けっして自己陶酔に走る事無く、正攻法で見事なドラマを世に問い我々の胸元に突き付けてくれます。本シリーズは76年二月から始まりこの第二部は、77年二月に放送されている。つまり毎週3話を一部として、その間一年、3部と4部の間は実に2年、第4部と番外編であるスペシャルとの間は実に3年もの時間と、労力と思い入れが注ぎ込まれた珠玉のドラマシリーズなのである。第2部に当たる本作には、「廃車置き場」「冬の樹」「釧路まで」が収録されている。どの作品も、テーマが明確に浮き彫りにされており見応えが有る。故・鶴田浩二、跳ねっ返りの水谷豊・森田健作・池部良らの役者の見事な名演。元ゴールデンカップス/ゴダイゴのミッキー吉野の音楽もこのドラマの魅力を深めている。
