   花菱財閥の次期当主として育てられてきたが、そんな堅苦しい環境に嫌気がさして家を飛び出した花菱薫。そして幼いころからの彼の許嫁として花嫁修業を続け、突如薫のもとに現れた桜庭呉服店の跡取り娘・桜庭葵。この2人の、それぞれの家系の問題にまで関わる波乱含みの恋愛ドラマが、葵はもちろん、その他多数のヒロインキャラクターを交えて展開。上流階級であるがために起こる一般的感覚とのギャップから生じるギャグも楽しい、ラブコメディだ。（田中 元）

　原作を含め、シリーズ全般を通して流れるほのぼのとしたちょっとコメディタッチの路線とはまるで様相を異にする導入編。
　藍青の本質がここに集約されていると言うと、言い過ぎかもしれないが、この3話だけでも見て欲しい。

日本人の男性であれば概ねこの作品を見て、何かしら感ずるところがあるであろう。主人公である薫に自分が感情移入してしまう。この作品はまさに日本人の琴線に響く、典型的な作品であると言える。
また、ヒロインである葵の所作、言動を見ていると、いにしえの日本人女性の持つ「奥ゆかしさ」を感じさせてくれる。日本人女性の全員が…という訳では無いが、現代の日本人女性の失いかけているものである。
男女雇用機会均等法が施行された現在も、確かに職場での男女差別といった悪癖は今だに残っているかもしれない。しかし、女性の社会進出が著しいのもまた事実ではある。昨年のヒット曲のＳＭＡＰの「Ｄｅａｒ　ＷＯＭＡＮ」や「Ｄｅａｒ　ＷＯＭＡＮ」を使用したシャンプーのＴＶＣＭなどを見ていると、現代の日本女性が凛々しく見えてしまうのはそれの表れである。そういった事実は悪いと非難するつもりは毛頭無いが、この作品はそんな現実に対するアンチテーゼとも受け止める事が出来よう。

想像してください。あなたはさえない大学生です。あなたは幼い頃に両親を失い、祖父との確執が原因で家から勘当されていて、アパートで一人で暮らしています。ところがある日、一人の若い女性(桜庭葵)があなたを訪ねてきます。彼女はあなたの幼馴染で、彼女の話では、彼女はあなたのいいなずけだ、と言うのです…。貴方はどう思いますか。｢藍青｣はこういう物語です。ここで紹介した内容はあくまで始まりに過ぎません。ここで少しでも｢藍より青し｣に興味を持たれた方は、ぜひ一度アニメなり原作なりをご覧ください(内容にそれほど大幅な違いはありません)。なお、原作の方は私のような年少者には刺激的過ぎる表現が多々ありますので、私としてはアニメ版を強くお勧めします。
