 『パトレイバー』など数々のアニメーションに、主にメカデザインとして参加してきた出渕裕が監督として取り組み、ロボットアニメの新しいスタンダードに挑んだ作品。
   おそらくは近未来の東京、高校生の神名綾人が乗っていた地下鉄が大きな振動により脱線。助けを求め外へ出ると、地上は戦争状態にあり、巨大な人型兵器が戦闘を繰り広げていた。逃げた先で出会った少女、美嶋玲香に、綾人は神殿へと導かれる。そこには巨大な卵があった。真実を見せると綾人を連れ出す謎の女性・紫東遙、青い血を流す人々、そして綾人と同調して動き出すラーゼフォン。ここではまだすべて謎につつまれたままだが、その圧倒的スケールの世界観を感じさせるに充分なプロローグが展開する。（田中　元）

ラーゼフォン第三巻。
収録されている三話のなかで特にオススメは消滅都市。綾人の言葉に食ってかかるキム。そして明らかになるキムの悲しい過去、寂しげに響くオルゴールのBirthday Song。そんな中キムにとって因縁のドーレムが現れる。そして綾人は・・・
綾人とキム、この二人にとってとても大切な転機となる回。ラストのキムの笑顔が何ともすがすがしい。

第三巻からはラーゼフォンの攻撃がはじまります。
第六話の消滅都市は謎のオーロラ現象にラーゼフォンが立ち向かいます。
この巻の話はどれもラーゼフォンの戦うシーンが見所だと思います。
三話収録されている中で私がお勧めするのは第八話の「凍る聖夜」。

ＴＥＲＲＡの七森が氷のドーレム（敵の謎の巨大生物）と化してしまうのですが、それがまたきれいなんです。絵の美しさにみとれながらもラーゼフォンの中の綾人は寒さに苦戦します。そんな時 三嶋玲香が現れて綾人の手を取り…？ 物語が進んでいくにつれてますます見逃せません。
私は三嶋玲香が好きなのですが、ほとんど出番がありません。

それでもラーゼフォンはテレビで現在放送されているものを見ても、
綾人が成長していく姿や周りの人たちの感情など見ていてとても面白いし、
可哀相だと思うところもあるし、感動するところもあります。
基本的には可哀相なところが多い気がしますが、綾人が最後にどうなっていくのかが楽しみです。17歳の綾人の成長を見届けたいと思います。

Vol. 2とあまり代わり映えのしない展開だ。ちょっと全体に微温的で、キャラクターの人物造詣が薄い感じだ。エヴァの碇シンジと比べると、綾人の精神的葛藤はそれほどではない。綾人の方が年食ってる分物わかりが良いのかな。これを観ているといかにエヴァンゲリオンが特殊な作品であったかということが判る。世界の主要都市が壊滅するほどの大惨事が進行しているにもかかわらず、日常が妙に平穏で、戦闘に巻き込まれる都市群も飾り物のようで生気がない。
　エヴァの時も思ったが、これも戦争を知らない世代が作ったヴァーチャルな物語である。もう少し観てみることにしよう。
