オルタナティブとかヒップホップとかそんなちっぽけなカテゴリーの中ではなく、ロックの歴史の中でもこの作品の意義はデカイのではないでしょうか?
CRASS、THE POP GROUP、WIRE、GANG OF FOUR、FUGAZI、THE EXあたりのロック・ジャイアント達の偉業と軽く肩を並べる、日本が世界に誇る歴史的名盤。
個人的にはFRICTION以来の衝撃でした。

素晴らしいアルバムだ。今までのアルバムが"起承転"だとするのなら、これが"結"になるのではないかなと思ってしまった。54では珍しくメロディアスな曲が多く、独特のエグさが抜けてきれいなHIPHOPが残った感じである、54を始めて聞いたアルバムがこれであったら、陰と明でいう、明の部分しか知らないのかも知れないが、今までの伏線を引いてきてこれにたどり着いたのなら、これが彼らのスッピンと認識できるのではと思った。

ここのレビューをアテにしてて唯一聞いてなかった54-71の音源ですがつい最近機会があって聞きましたが、これは間違いなく彼らのベストアルバムだと思います。まず他のアルバムと比較して違うのは楽曲がメロディアスであること、彼らの売りはなんとも言葉では表現しがたいですがドロドロした黒い音だと思いますが今回はそのドロドロ感が薄くなりその反作用で実にメロディアスなリフが浮かんできています。ひょっとするとこれが彼らの真に評価すべき側面なのかもしれません。ニューウェーヴみたいな曲もあったりで実験的。個人的には価値ある数少ない名盤
