やはりベトナム戦争ものは、その歴史的背景が分かってないと面白さが半減してしまう。特に、この映画はそうかもしれない。さらに、アメリカの国民性、ベトナムの国民性まで頭に整理されていれば、かなり楽しめるだろう。

私にはそんな知識はなかったが、しかし、十分楽しめた。コッポラが伝えたかった戦争の欺瞞と狂気性。始まりと終わりがドアーズの「ジ・エンド」であるのも印象的。
オリジナルは観ていないが、しばらくしたら観てみようと思う。
戦争は、理性の柵をはずしてしまう。

　オリジナル版を劇場公開時と、洋画劇場で通算２回鑑賞した後、立花隆『「地獄の黙示録」解読』を読み、本ビデオ【特別完全版】を視聴。

　やはり、長くなった分、本作の方が解り易い。特に、後編のフレンチ・プランテーションの場面はベトナム戦争の意義を考えさせる上では必須だと思う。でも多少の歴史的背景知識は必要。立花隆の解読本を読んでおく事をお薦めする。

　又、オリジナル版ではエンディングにあったジャングル爆撃シーンが、こちらでは冒頭に移されている。結局、最後でウィラードは爆撃要請はせず、静かにサイゴンに戻って行ったのだろうか？
　でも、もしカーツの本拠地を爆撃できるのなら、何故あれほど苦労して刺客を送る必要があったのか？シナリオ上の不備ではなかろうか。

　視聴の順序としてはやはり、オリジナル版→立花解読本→特別完全版と進むのがベストだと思う。

　尚、戸田奈津子の字幕は立花隆の言う通り、不適切な訳が多いので、少なくともカーツのセリフは英語を聴いて欲しい。

なるほどこの映画は戦争映画ではなかったのだなぁと、納得できた。深いです。何度も繰り返し見て見る価値ありますね。
