　ヒッチコックの最高傑作という評価が定着している。それは、ジェームス・スチュアートとキム・ノヴァクのロマンスでもあり、悲劇でもあり、サン・フランシスコの光景を背景にしたミステリーでもあるからだ。
　また後半は、ジェイムス・スチュアートの偏執狂的なこだわりが、ふたりの愛情に暗い影をなげて不安が増していく。登場人物はそれぞれにところを得て適役ぞろい。ヒッチコック一流の語り口で、ストーリーに破綻があるわけもなく、見終わって複雑な気持ちにとらわれる。

数あるヒッチコック映画の中でも特に際だつ最高傑作。ヒッチの作品ではお馴染みのジェームズ・スチュアートが出色の演技を見せ、妖艶な美しさを湛えたキム・ノヴァックが、複雑な役どころを見事にこなしている。バーナード・ハーマンの音楽も完璧。そして忘れてならないのが、舞台となったサンフランシスコの美しい町並み。このサスペンスの古典が完全にレストアされて蘇ったのだから、ファンには堪らない。初めての方も一度観たら病み付きなって、繰り替えし観たくなること間違いなし。

近年急速に評価が高くなっていて正直驚く。
なにかしら不健全？なムードを発散するので以前は「敬遠されているのかな」と思っていました。
「サイコ」の恐怖は乾いていますが「めまい」は甘美でウェットです。
キム・ノヴァック、色っぽいです。
