前作は最高に気合の入ったゲームでしたが、今作はどこにでもあるただの並みのゲームで、システムだけがグランディアいう感じです。ドリームキャストの魅力の一つVGAもテクスチャーが綺麗ではなく醍醐味がないし、動きも悪いし、見せ場の魔法もムービーで面白くないし、３Dのフィールドも作りこまれていないし、音楽にも前作同様恵まれず、なんか「古いなー」と思うゲームになりました。

グラディアIIは面白い。RPGでは敵と出会うたびに、また、戦闘？面倒くさい。と思ってしまうが、これほど戦闘シーンが楽しいゲームは珍しい。敵との遭遇も自分で選べるので、意外な不意打ちもないが、こちらから戦闘をしかけて楽しみたくなる。音楽、グラフィック、ストーリー、どれをとっても秀作である。

名作だった前作とはうって変わって、どこにでもあるＲＰＧになってしまった。キャラクター、システム共に前作との共通点はない。続編を名乗る別物の典型と言える。
