発売された5枚目のアルバムですが、
想像していたのとは違い、かなり落ち着いたナンバーが多いように
感じました。今までのオアシスからすると良い意味で意外というか、
ノエル節炸裂というよりも、何となくメンバー全体で醸し出す雰囲気が
伝わってくるような奥深いアルバムに仕上がっています。

ノエルだけでなく、ボーカルのリアムや、新加入のゲム、アンディも
すばらしい曲を書いています。
静かなナンバーが多い中で、それでも心からワクワクさせてくれるのは、
やはりオアシスのすごいところだと思います。
ぜひ、今まで洋楽を聞いたことのない方も含めて、一人でもたくさんの人に聞いてもらいたいアルバムです。

発売当時は、1st、2ndへの回帰が謳われてましたが、
回帰は仕切れていない作品だと思います。しかしながら、
6th「Don't Believe The Truth」を聞いてから、
この「heathen chemistry」を聞くと、
「ああ、5thは6thのための布石だったんだ」と気付かされます。
このアルバムはメンバー全員が作曲に参加していて、
その経験が6thで見事に昇華されます。
決して抜きん出た傑作ではありませんが、5th~6thを通して聞くことで
オアシスのメンバー全員の作曲能力の成長とを感じられます。

「再生」を感じさせるシンプルなロックを基盤とした、オアシスらしさがふんだんに盛り込まれた傑作5thアルバム。
あらためてロックンロールの素晴らしさを訴えかける「The Hindu Times」、幅広い層にも受け入れられるような、とても切ないバラード「Stop Crying Your Heart Out」、ノエルが歌うロックバラード「Little By Little」がシングル曲。それ以外には、アコースティックの小品「Songbird」等リアムの成長が目立つ。
ただ、ロックンロール・アルバムをコンセプトにしていただけに、ノエルの弾き語り曲であるボーナストラックは、それを台無しに(良い曲だが)。
アーティストの意志を尊重するなら、輸入盤をどうぞ。
