ポリスほどシングルカットされたベスト版が合うバンドも
ないのでは？？と思うほど洗練された名曲の数々が揃ったアルバム。
彼らのデビューからのシングルに沿った選曲ながら、駄曲なしの
流れるような構成。彼らのバンドとしての成長とスティングのソロ
へと繋がる足跡がよくわかります。

スティング、アンディーサマーズ、スチュアートコープランドという個性的な３人のメンバーからなり、わずか５枚のアルバムを残して解散してしまったポリスのベストアルバムです。実質的な活動期間は６年なのですが、初期のレゲエのリズムを取リ入れたパンクから、中期のポップ、そして後期の洗練されたロックと、彼らほど、サウンドの変遷を重ねたバンドも珍しいのではないでしょうか。でも、そのどの期の曲をとっても、それぞれの魅力があるのも、彼らの才能の高さといえるでしょうか。
ヒット曲だけでなく、シングルカットされていない曲も含めて、各期の曲がバランスよく収録されたベストアルバムであり、ポリス入門に適したアルバムだと思います。

個人的には購入して失敗したと思っている。シングルカットされていない曲の中でもずっとメロディーを感じさせるドラミング（これは渋谷陽一氏が使用した表現）が涼しげに連綿と続いていた各アルバム、また実見したライブのことを思うとあのドラムの良さが殺されていると感じざるを得ない。ヒットメーカーなだけにこれは意外なことでもあった。それと初聴の曲順のすり込みというものはどのアーティストでも少なからずあるものだが、やはり一枚毎アルバムを買い直すべきだったと思っている。その差がクイーンやビートルズよりも顕著だったというのが意外であった。
