特別桑田のファンというわけではなかったが、今回の「東京」にはまいりました。こういう曲作れるのは、やっぱり天才なのでしょう。凡人にはそう思えてならず、つい買ってしまいました。ま、好みだけどね。私の担当の美容師は、「何度聞いても演歌」と言ってたけど。この渋さ、わかんないかな~？

カップリングの曲たちも持っていて損はないので、お買い得です。1曲目でひたって、2曲目以降は「カラオケ練習用」って感じですか？

桑田佳祐の新曲「東京」は、１９９４年の「孤独の太陽」を彷彿とさせる、６分に及ぶロックナンバーだ。サザン活動休止後、桑田は「波乗りジョニー」と「白い恋人達」といった、いわゆるポップソング・タイプの楽曲を発表してきた。しかし、それらの曲は、僕にとっては「Southern All Stars feat Kuwata Keisuke」という感じが否めなかった。しかし、僕はラジオでこの曲を聴いたとき、「これが、桑田佳祐のソロ作品であるべきだ。」と凄く思った。前回、前々回のシングルが余りにもポップだったので、戸惑うリスナーも多いと思う。しかし、この曲は聴けば聴くほど、味わいが増してくる作品と言える。従って、第一印象が悪くても、何度も何度も聴き続ける事をオススメする。そうすれば、あなたもこの曲の素晴らしさに気付くだろう。カップリングの２曲も、とても完成された爽快なナンバーだ。是非、聴いて欲しい。間奏の桑田自身によるギターソロも必聴。

アルバム『孤独の太陽』などを聴いていた者からすれば、マキシの１曲目がコレ、というのは衝撃でもなんでもな……、いや、ちょっとウソ。インパクトの強いPV（アキラ中尾が脂っこく怪演！）の存在を抜きに考えても、これはやはり強烈な一打というか、体内に無理やり埋め込まれ、しかし徐々に効いてきてクセになってしまう「異物」のような何か、である（どういう例えだ！）。強力なタイアップ曲が２曲あるにもかかわらず、あえてノン・タイアップのこれを１曲目に持ってきた彼の直感というか、まだ錆び付いていないバランス感覚には脱帽させられる。

続く２曲目は「東京」同様オリジナル・アルバムに、甘酸っぱい３曲目は２枚組のベスト盤に、それぞれ収録されたが、どちらもあの「波乗りジョニー」等の延長線上にあるさわやかナンバー…、という表現だけでは伝えきれないところが、どうにもこうにもニクいわけである。２曲目など、桑田ソロならではの「いなたさ」を持ち、それゆえ耳に残る。２曲目と３曲目のあいだに収められたインタールード（ミニFMか何かのジングル風）も、初期のサザンのアルバムに似たようなトラック（多くはおふざけ系だったが…）がよく入っていたのを思い出させ、実にいい感じで、曲間のスムーズな《つなぎ》の役割を果たしている。単なるアルバム先行マキシの枠を超え、ひとつの作品として聴きごたえのあるものに仕上がっていることが、うれしく思える１枚だ。

東京は聞けば聞くほど味が出てくる曲だと思う。
ＣＭソングの夏の日の少年や可愛いミーナもすごく良い。
どれも１曲だけでもいける曲です。
