一瞬で、周囲の空気をほんわかと温かくするヴォーカル。聴く者をそっと包み込むオルガン、ポーンと背中を押してくれるようなポジティヴ感を体現するアコースティック・ギター。空気公団の新作『約束しよう』(5曲入りミニ・アルバム)は、1曲目の「灰色の雲が近づいている」から、彼らにしか描けない音像がふわっと広がっていく珠玉のポップ・ソング集。この作品には、懐かしい情景と斬新な実験性がゆるやかなに溶け合い、聴き手を未体験の感覚へと誘うポップスの魔法が宿っている。サウンド・メイキングにおける進化もめざましい。“歌”を真ん中においたアレンジはさらに洗練され、彼らの魅力の中心である良質なメロディがくっきりと浮かび上がってくるのだ。特に音の感触そのもので、空気公団の世界観を広げることに成功したエンジニア、鳥羽修の功績は大きいと思う。また、オカリナ、マリンバ、鉄琴、カスタネットをレイアウトしたアンサンブルもかわいい。 (森朋之) --- 2002年07月号
