第３番の演奏は出だしからゆったりとした流れで聴いていてとても
落ち着きます。メロス四重奏団やアルバンベルク四重奏団の演奏と
比べるとその違いがよくわかります。

この２曲の関係は調性が同一のためか、しばしば交響曲第４０番と
第４１番との関係になぞられます。「ほぼ同時期にこのような
まったく性格の相反する作品を同時に書くことができる
モーツァルトは天才だ。」というのはよく語られている話ですが
この弦楽五重奏曲Ｋ５１５、Ｋ５１６の作品において如実に
感じとることができます。

この価格でこの演奏はモーツァルト、室内楽ファンならずとも
聴く価値があると思います。

「疾走する悲しみ」が聴きたければ、これを買え。
多くの人が誤解している事だが、小林秀雄が「モオツァルト」の中で、「モオツァルトのかなしさは疾走する。涙は追いつけない。」と評した曲は交響曲第４０番(K.550)ではなく、実はここに収録されている弦楽五重奏曲第４番(K.516)である。
スメタナ四重奏団とスークの名演がこの値段で買えるなら、他のＣＤはどうするのだろう・・・と余計な心配をしてしまう。演奏の特長はあれこれと探す必要も無い。「これがクラシック（古典）です」と言えば足りる。王道とはそんなものだ。

評論家の小林秀雄氏によって、「モォツアルトの悲しさは疾走する」と評された弦楽五重奏第４番を含む、アルバムです。
弦楽五重奏曲の第３番、第４番は、交響曲第４０番、４１番の関係に比較されることも多い、同時期作曲の楽曲で、４０、４１番同様、かたや、雄大で重厚、かたや哀感ある曲になっています。これらの曲を、名門スメタナ四重奏団は、名手スークを迎え、その重厚感、哀感を見事に再現しています。
この値段で、名曲２曲のカップリングが味わえるお得な１枚です。
