白蛇の化身・白麻Rcw、中国西湖に暮す若者・許仙閨AcIcgaucX。妖怪を憎む法海和尚はこれを許さず、ふたりの仲を裂こうとする…。日動映画社(旧・日本動画社)が東映に吸収され、東映動画として新たに発足。その“東映長編動画”の第1弾作品。

子供の頃、母親につれて行ってもらって映画館で観た「白蛇伝」。今での鮮明に覚えています。この作品がＤＶＤとなって、今度は私が孫と観る番になりました。言わば２０世紀の作品を２１世紀になって子供と楽しむことになるとは、なんとも感慨深いものがあります。
作品を鑑賞するとその完成度の高さには改めて脱帽します。声の出演が森重久弥と宮城まり子の二人で何役もこなしていたことにも驚かされました。

是非、お子さん達とご一緒鑑賞され、楽しい時間をお過ごしになることをおすすめいたします。

白蛇の化身のモデルを、当時の新人女優だった佐久間良子がつとめたそうだ。
蛇身ゆえに苦難を強いられる想いも、やがて報われ、結実する。
たまにはこんな無垢な愛を観てみよう。

…とは決して言い過ぎではないと思います。
動きの繊細さや絵の美しさは
当時すべてを手作業でやっていた
ことを考慮しなくても
今のCGなんて何やってるの！？
と云いたくなる程の完成度。
この頃の東映アニメは良い仕事していたと実感の１本。
