ジャズは、やっぱりライブ！！
おすすめの曲は、タイトル曲の「スリ-・ブラインド・マイス」
この曲を聴いたたけでこのアルバムの良さがわかると思う。
熱くて、下手な小細工をしていない、直球勝負のライブ・アルバム
ジャズ（ア-ト・ブレイキ-）の良さがわかるのは、そして一番輝くのは
ライブなんですね。

本作、個人的にはジャズメッセンジャーズの作品中三本の指に入ると考えている。ライブ音源でありながら音質が頗る良いので、臨場感も抜群である。

ショーターを音楽監督に迎えて以来、当時最先端の手法であるモードに取り組んできたメッセンジャーズだが、本作ではその成果が見事に結実している。メンバーにモードを得意とするハバードやシダー・ウォルトンがいるからであろうか、サウンドは古臭さが無く新鮮である。

全てのトラックが聴きどころであるが特に推薦したいのは２曲目のハバードをフィーチャーしたバラード。スローテンポでも決して重くならず、華やかなトーンですっきりと歌い上げている。他曲も実に素晴らしく、必聴の名盤であろう。

名伯楽のブレイキーの先進性は、60年代に入ってウェイン・ショーターを起用したことに象徴される。50年代後半、ファンキーという大鉱脈を掘り当て、当分その売りで勝負できたはずのジャズメッセンジャーズであったが、60年代の新たな潮流として浮上したモードを、もっとも斬新な解釈で作編曲、演奏の才能を持ったショーターをスカウトすることによって採りいれ、見事にコンボの体質を刷新したのだ。しかもカーティス・フラーをフィーチャーし3管編成にすることで、サウンドの厚みが増し、ショーターのアレンジも存分に発揮されたのである。スリー・ブラインド・マイス、ブルー・ムーン、ザット・オールド・フィーリングと続く選曲のよさもさることながら、ハバードのトランペット、フラーのトロンボーン、ショーターのサックス、シダー・ウォルトンのピアノとそれぞれに溌剌とした若手らしいプレイが展開され、ヴァイタルで希望に満ちたモダン・ジャズのエッセンスを感じることができる。ライブ演奏だが、演奏や録音に荒さもなく、実に完成度の高いアルバムに仕上がっている。JMの中期の傑作として是非手元におきたいCDである。
